The proper way to respond to mock outrage over Teresa Kerry's "shove it"
Nod your head in agreement and say, "You are absolutely right. She should have behaved more like our president and called the reporter a major league asshole. Or failing that, she should have taken a lesson in civility from our vice-president and told the reporter to go fuck himself."

That ought shut the right wingers up.

1. Important to remind folks too
She was recruited by the Republicans to run for her deceased first husbands seat. She was their darling then.

How fast the worm turns with those hypocrites

4. Well, the point being for just a moment, make them think you are agreeing.
...then slam them with the words of their own public officials.

11. I Like The "Catch-Em-Off-Guard" Approach You Suggested...
nod and smile and allow your first few words to indicate agreement and they lower their guard... then you can verbally jab your jump-knife right between their second and third rib.

(too gross? too violent? Oh, shove-it! I don't care!) :-)

7. The MAJOR difference between what teresa did and what Cheney/* have said
That reporter was being a true asshole and was known to spread lies about the Kerry family. She did what anybody would known if not more civil by telling him to shove it.

That's quite different than saying "fuck you" to someone who you provoked into saying something TRUTHFUL about your crooked dealings.

8. Throw this at them
Snopes confirmed Bush's remarks:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/bushcuss.asp

Claim: President Bush once referred to a reporter as a "major league asshole."

Status: True.

Origins: Akin to Senator John Kerry's March 2004 public characterization of one of his Secret Service bodyguards as a "son of a bitch," President George W. Bush was once involved in a similar incident.

(snip)

During a 2000 Labor Day weekend rally at suburban Naperville, Illinois, the then-Republican presidential nominee (and Texas governor) forgot the axiom about treating every microphone as a live mike. Upon spotting a veteran political reporter in the crowd and pointing him out to his running mate, Dick Cheney, as the two stood at the podium waving to the assembled crowd, Bush said, "There's Adam Clymer, major-league asshole from The New York Times." Cheney, also unaware the microphones were turned on, agreed, saying, "Oh yeah, he is, big time."

(snip)

President Bush was subsequently criticized both for the remark itself and for the way the fallout from it was handled. When his aides were questioned about the "asshole" comment, rather than offering the candidate's apologies for what he had said, they instead defended the remark, attributing it to justifiable ire over particular items Clymer had written about Bush's career as Governor of Texas. "There's been a series of articles that the governor has felt have been very unfair," said Bush's communications director, Karen Hughes.

9. Got my first chance this morning
My freeper neighbor had his usual smirking attitude about it, so I made the Cheney comparison.

His reply? Leahy deserved it, the "young reporter" didn't. I smiled and said "There's that double standard again", and walked away before he could start on his usual talking points regurgitation.

They always come up with a justification - it seems they'd rather look like hypocrites than admit their side is less than perfect.
