What do Bush supporters most like about their candidate ??
Is it the professional and slick way he lies or is it the way he speaks the Lord's name for political effect? Or is it his cowboy swagger with his Texas twang that they find so endearing? Or is it his capacity to raise huge sums of money from his Big Business Republican cronies? Or do they just love the way he eats pretzels or the expert way he rides his Segway? Or is it his mind?

3. The thing they like best:
That they can refer to him as "W" on message boards and don't have to learn to spell George.

7. I've asked and asked and I can't get a straight answer, so
here is my speculation:

1. Some people self-identify so strongly as Republicans they simply can't bring themselves to admit that anything is wrong.

2. Some people - some surprising people, I've realized - are bigots at heart. They don't like Arabs or Muslims and they hope W will nuke them (seriously). They don't like gays. They don't like black people. They're basically very happy with the really nasty things that Republicans spend most of their time doing to anyone who isn't blonde with blue hair.

3. Some people sincerely believe that W is the second coming of Jesus or something close, and they will vote for him from religious fervor.

4. Some people still believe that the Republican Party looks out for them - that the Republicans are the party of tax breaks for ordinary people. They won't listen to anyone who shows them facts.

5. Some people are one-issue voters, such as against abortion or against gun control, and they're convinced that sooner or later the Republicans will fulfill their campaign promises on these issues. (The rest of us note that the Republicans are very careful not to ever fulfill their campaign promises on these wedge issues, even though they currently control every branch of government.)

So there you have it. Five possible reasons why some people will vote for George W. Bush even if they catch him climbing out their bedroom window with their wallet in his hands!

10. strength and decisiveness
I heard that over and over again from people leaning towards Bush in a focus group of undecided Ohio voters on C-span.

Weird thing is, they like his decisiveness but think he makes bad decisions. They believe Kerry is very smart and thoughtful, but they believe his is too careful about making decisions.

Hey, don't ask me, I don't get it either, but that's what they were all saying.

15. GOD GOD GOD
they always give the reason that he is a man of god or some other crap.

but i also think many of them like it that he is so stupid. i think these guys aren't all that great themselves and they felt inferior with someone like bill clinton. that someone as stupid as bush could be president makes them feel good about themselves since they are similar.

17. They like his linear thinking ...
along with his lack of nuance.

They find comfort in a black & white world and avoid gray whenever they can. He ain't sneaky about - he said he'd cut taxes, test school kids, and attack the axis of evil - and he did it. They ignore his mistakes (as apparently so does he) and they dislike the press pointing them out.

For a straight answer.

20. He will cut taxes, is anti-abortion and pro Christian and Business
Is it really that much of a mystery?

He delivers on all four points. To me it would be an easy choice if I was a narrow minded, wealthy white person who had something to gain by embracing a fundamentalist "Christian" view of the world that I could defend every once and awhile.

23. He exemplifies what our mainstream culture has become:
Where there is no longer any respect for expertise.
Everyone feels that they can do whatever anyone else can do.

Hence the proliferation of reality TV shows . And music and arts are not much different when procurers are simply finding cogs that fit a market rather than exerting the effort to cultivate artists who can create new markets. And if a movie has any creativity or cleverness it is seen as having an agenda beyond it's pure beauty.

So with this continual dumbing down of society and culture (selling the same old cereal in a new box) someone like George Bush is able to find a base and seen as a "good ole boy":
He's not very smart
Not very clever
Not a deep thinker
Zero signs of any intellectualism
Has trouble speaking in front of people
Pathological liar
Alcoholic
Drug abuser

This gives him wide appeal from the ignorant who identify with him to the uber wealthy that see him as the pawn that he is.

32. Totalitarian tendencies.
Bu$h supporters desire an authoritarian dictatorship. They need to be told what to do by the government, because they have this problem with thinking for themselves.

They have an unconscious need to obey, and to submit to authority.

That's why they all support the Patriot Act. They need to know that Big Brother is watching them, and is taking care of them. They love government control over their lives.

They prefer "security" over freedom.
