Canada: New agriculture minister heads to Calgary for mad cow meetings
OTTAWA (CP) - Less than two days after becoming federal agriculture minister, Andy Mitchell is headed to Calgary to wrestle with the mad cow crisis that has devastated Canada's cattle industry.

Mitchell plans to start in Alberta on Thursday, then swing through Saskatchewan and Manitoba before the weekend to meet with affected producers, feedlot operators, beef processors and other industry players.

The former Indian Affairs minister was shuffled into Agriculture on Tuesday and says he has received briefings and consulted cabinet colleagues on the mad cow issue.
