Linda Ronstadt bounced from the Aladdin support of F911 one of the reasons
It appears she wanted out of her Aladdin and deal and when she supported F911 fans revolted. This is the second report I have heard about negative reaction to her support of F911.

======================================
NORM: At Aladdin, singer rubs wrong way

Linda Ronstadt apparently got what she wanted -- to be 86'd from the Aladdin.

In a bizarre performance notable for its bridge-burning comments, Ronstadt inflamed more than her Aladdin audience on Saturday by taking potshots at Las Vegas and dedicating "Desperado" to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.

When her show was over, the Aladdin had her checked out of her room and escorted off the premises.

Many walked out during the show, one concertgoer tossed a cocktail on her poster, others defaced her posters and the box office was "a mob scene" of people seeking refunds, according to an Aladdin spokeswoman.

A drifter on the run.
And eloquent profanity,
It rolls right off my tongue."

3. Yes, but your link
also includes:

"Early in the show she told the crowd not to expect her greatest hits and added a snide remark or two about Las Vegas and the Aladdin. Scores of fans filed out when Ronstadt made her dedication to Moore and his controversial political film."

and

"Ronstadt allowed no meet-and-greets and no photographers."

Ronstadt already had reconstructive nose surgeries due to massive cocaine use ... one can only wonder ...

What does Ms. Ronstadt's alleged "massive" cocaine use have to do with her perceptions about LV or her support of Mr. Moore's film?

17. Yes, Linda used coke back in the day.....
I believe she got into it when she was on tour with Neil Young. I saw her then, when she & Neil dropped by a Houston club where Gram Parsons was playing. It was the first time she sang with Emmylou. Those were wild days--luckily, I was too poor to get into serious trouble.

She realized that her voice could be damaged & stopped sticking stuff up her nose long ago. Nowadays, she's a comfortably built diva; she always tended to be a bit chubby, especially when healthy. She lives in Tucson & San Francisco with 2 adopted children. And she still has a fine voice.

49. What's with the cocaine comment?
If she's kicked a drug habit, good for her. If she's against Bushco, even better.

What "snide remarks"?

If the audience don't respect her views enough to politely endure them, then enjoy the performance, they were never her fans to begin with.

I really don't see what her alleged "cosmetic surgery" has to do with this story...

24. I'd be surprised if 3% of the people at that concert lived in Vegas.
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 10:21 AM by stopbush
Our city gets 35 million tourists a year. Those concert goers were a representation of the ignorant slobs that make up "the heartland," here on vacation to screw a few hookers and lose the family nest egg before returning to their fundy churches to ask Jeebus for forgiveness.

Don't get me wrong - Vegas brings this shit on itself. I have a friend who works at Nobu restaurant in the Hard Rock. This is a restaurant where two people are lucky to get out the door for less than $300. Since the "what happens here stays here" TV campaign began, Nobu is seeing a steady stream of assholes who feel they can do whatever they want anywhere in Vegas with no consequence. People arrive at the door and demand "a fucking table...now." Girls get up on the tables after dinner and bare their breasts. Not the kind of activity a high-class big-ticket restaurant is used to, to say the least.

50. Exactly...if you're going to Vegas it's not to hear political spiel...
....Linda chose the wrong type of venue to rant. The club owner watches as part of the audience boos and/or leaves and thinks about the lost revenue. Sad perhaps, but he had every right to do so.

I don't get all the griping about business's or corporations letting spokespeople go because they don't like how they're representing the company. It's their right....and if they performers don't like it, why are they prostituting themselves to such materialistic outlets...sorry no pity party from me.

23. Concert goers having a mob-scene?
Do you REALLY believe that people would leave a concert because she dedicated a song to Michael Moore? Or a mob scene? WTF? Sounds like she was pretty out of it.. but this story smells. Tearing up her poster? Throwing a cocktail on it? Who were these fans? Were they ALL drunk? WHy in the world anyone would want to perform for those clods is beyond me...

27. Further, it would seem a little odd that people who.........
would pay good money to see Linda Ronstadt wouldn't be the types who would resort to such behavior because she dedicated a song to Michael Moore (Desperado, though I still can't figure out what that song has to do with Moore...or if it was meant positively or negatively) or expressed displeasure with Las Vegas; this wasn't a Toby Keith concert.

I agree that story smells a bit.

28. Linda is a neighbor
Although I don't know her personally everyone who lives in Tucson is aware that spends the majority of her time here in Tucson where she attended school and where her very prominant family has lived since forever. Linda wants her children to have the same benefits that she had of family, culture and schooling. She is very much involved with her children and her city and is a quiet activist.

The Pubs have no qualms in making unproven personal attacks about anyone if it suits their goal of getting their wants met.

"....Ronstadt ....recontructive nose surgery....massive cocaine use....(and ends up with)...one can only wonder."

As a fellow Tucsonan and an avid fan of Linda, I say "You go Girl."

29. Her concert has been billed as "half greatest hits"
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 11:13 AM by Mike Daniels
She pulled the same routine at a show in Wolftrap in Northern Virginia a few weeks ago.

Apparently, the publicity materials for this tour have said the tour is half hits/half other material. It appears that Linda is saying "f*ck the promised material", disregard the "greatest hits" and do her own thing in the end. So, not only does she not offer what the concert promised, she performs one "hit" as a dedication to someone who I'd be willing to say isn't even universally admired by Democrats.

While the crowd reacted poorly with property destruction I sure as hell don't blame them for booing, walking out and demanding a refund.

Linda showed contempt for her audience and they were right to show contempt right back at her.

30. She was booed WHEN she supported Michael Moore.
A relative of mine was at the concert at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va. When she expressed support for Moore and dedicated an encore of "Desperado" to him, people started booing, then others started cheering to counteract the boos ... and then some people couldn't even hear what she was singing.

32. Well the Wolftrap review said the crowd wasn't that happy to begin with
and that she didn't get off on a good foot by backing off on what was promised re: the promised greatest hits. That's like going to see REM and the entire concert is Britney Spears covers

Sorry but it sounds like the crowd had more than enough to be pissed off about under the circumstances. The icing on the cake was the dedication to Moore.

33. Good for Linda. She was always an activist first and
an entertainer second. Maybe we'll go back to the sixties after all and save our country. Even though the leaders of the counter cultural revolution of the sixties are well into middle age, they exhibited leadership back then and may have to step up to the plate again, as there seems to be very little leadership coming from Generation X so far.

45. I saw Linda in San Diego LAST NIGHT
and she did make swipes at Enron, Arnolds "Girly Man" comments and then dedicated the last song to Michael More. The crowed was very RED NECK republican and bood and cheared (only at Michael Moore they claped at the Enron/Aarnold comments - dedicated Fly Away to them). I loved it. No one left and the booing died down.

Great concert.

She played old stuff from an upcoming album and old stuff. She only played for about an hour, but it was great.
