It is one I helped host with a friend of mine. We had somewhere between 70 and 80 people. This was our third MoveOn event and we are in a good sized city so we've been increasing the size of our venue each time. This was the first time we had to ask for donations to help pay for the community center room that we rented for the night. We're looking into finding a free meeting hall where we can host up to 100 to 150 people whenever MoveOn has such an event. We are also beginning to think about hosting smaller 'political awareness' nights on a weekly basis--based on our email lists (not sponsored by MoveOn).
The Documentary was well received. Part of the focus of the group was lost, I think, by the conference call that followed. Part of that was due to our having technical difficulties so we were unable to patch through the phone to a larger speaker. Although perhaps half the people stayed for this, we had to be very quiet in a large room to hear the speaker phone. By the time that presentation was complete, the crowd had dwindled to a hand full of people. Still, those who HAD stayed were motivated to actually DO something and we had an interesting discussion about what some of our options were.
I know we will be continuing this sort of thing.
