CNN Does Hatchet Job On "Outfoxed"
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 09:48 AM by IMRadioactive
More to follow...it's coming on now.

The teaser was this was supposed to be a view at Faux bias, but is this movie biased, too?

I hope someone can tape/capture this. Could be interesting.

Producer Robert Greenwald is interviewed. Kurtz...corporate media whore...is rolled out to start the discrediting it as "taking parts out of context". Of course, Kurtz will not say what parts are not factual (just like the hatchet job he and others did on F911), but also led the viewer to assume the movie had no credibility.

Report mentions two of the producers worked for the Faux affiliate in Washington and not for the main network (thus they could have never been privvy to corporate memos????) and ran the denial from Faux with the omninous threat that giving credit to this material would open the door to other networks being treated the same way (probably Faux has the documentaries already in the can...along with the 8 x 10 glossies of Wolf Blizer and little animals).

But at least there was a report.

Other comments are appreciated.

Cheers!

2. Of course they are. They work indirectly for the same Masters as Faux
I have always said that, in many respects, CNN is WORSE than Faux because there isn't a whole lot of difference in them (CNN actually does, more rarely than ever now, allow the occasion, brief, whispered Democratic view or story, vs. Faux which is 100% Pravda) yet CNN fools more people.

3. There Are Threads Here On The Psy-Ops Going On There
It's getting very blatant. I've been a CNN viewer for 20 plus years and the right wing tilt over the past 2 years is painfully obvious. And yes, extremely deceptive considering they still are looked upon as credible and neutral.

9. Everyone here should be aware of this.....
D5E: Destruction, Degradation, Denial, Disruption, Deceit, and Exploitation

CONCEPT PAPER

Working Group on Preventive and Preemptive Military Intervention

William W. Keller and Gordon R. Mitchell1
Project Coordinators

<Snip>

U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, called for an FBI investigation into the forgery of documents cited by President Bush and Secretary Powell as proof of Iraq’s nuclear transactions with Niger. As Rockefeller explained in a letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller: “There is a possibility that the fabrication of these documents may be part of a larger deception campaign aimed at manipulating public opinion and foreign policy regarding Iraq.”26

The timeliness of Rockefeller’s proposed inquiry was underscored by the appearance of official documents that lay out official American deception plans: "In a document last autumn, the joint chiefs of staff stressed the need for strategic deception and influence operations as tools of war. The army, navy and air force have been directed to devise plans for information warfare."27

According to defense analyst William Arkin, the Bush strategy lays out goals for information warfare that pursue D5E: "destruction, degradation, denial, disruption, deceit, and exploitation." Arkin notes that the wide array of sites and ractices of information control brought into the range of this policy "blurs or even erases the boundaries between factual information and news, on the one hand, and public relations, propaganda and psychological warfare on the other."28

This fusion of military deception programs with media propaganda efforts enabled the Office of Strategic Influence to commission officers from the U.S. Army's Psychological Operations Command to work as interns in the news division of CNN.29

Eventually, the Bush Administration was burned by the political heat generated when the Office of Strategic Influence was leaked to the media. The ensuing firestorm of controversy prompted Secretary Rumsfeld to close the propaganda unit. Yet less than a year later, Rumsfeld stipulated that his action had only been symbolic, and that information warfare missions were still underway at other Pentagon offices: And then there was the Office of Strategic Influence. You may recall that.
And “oh my goodness gracious isn't that terrible, Henny Penny the sky is going to fall.” I went down that next day and said fine, if you want to savage this thing, fine, I'll give you the corpse. There's the name. You can have the name, but I'm gonna keep doing every single thing that needs to be done and I have.30

The political implications of blurring military strategic deception and public sphere propaganda are worth exploring, given Arkin's concerns about military deception that "while the policy ostensibly targets foreign enemies, its most likely victim will be the American electorate."31

4. You would think other media outlets would love to see Faux exposed
for the disinformation machine they are.

What gives? They are going to protect their competition? I guess that is proof positive that crony capitalism is alive and well in the good ol' US of A.

Hannity does it all the time. Why in the world would you mention a competitor (unless they aren't ) and in this case try to slam your COMPETITION?

5. CNN is afraid
that someone is putting together a movie about them. If OutFoxed gets "legs" than it will be that more likely an OutCNN will happen next

7. it's called a "pre-emptive strike"
so that no one will start snooping into CNN's little bag of tricks.

Until they can offer solid proof to refute what Greenwald has produced, they will continue to look pathetic, thin-skinned and amateurish.

10. Much as I think "Outfoxed" is a great idea and long
overdue, I'm waiting for someone to take on the corporate media as a whole. Call the film "Media Horse" in honor of the late great Media Whores Online which was referred to on C-span as "Media Horse" in a deliberate attempt to mislead viewers and keep them from locating it online.
