Howard Stern interview with Michael Moore
The Howard Stern interview with Michael Moore is linked from MoveLeft Media at the webapage below.

http://www.moveleft.com/moveleft_essay_2004_06_29_howard_stern_interviews_director_michael_moore.asp

That webpage also has my comments on the movie, especially about what I found after being reminded about the 28 pages in a Congressinal report on 9/11 which implicate Saudi officials which George W. Bush censored.

It is a very frank, serious, funny discussion of the movie and politics....

Very very good.

3. If you liked Fahrenheit 9/11, DU me a favor please
Head over to IMDB, rate the film, and maybe even write some brief commentary. Then, take another minute to hit the IMDB message board for the movie and refute a neocon troll. They're swarming over there, spewing their vile copy-paste lies about Moore and his film.

9. No offense, but
I'm getting a little weary of your spamming all the F911 threads with this message. Why don't you create a thread and keep it kicked instead?

That isn't spamming.

If someone wants to emphasize one aspect of a topic, and makes one post per related-thread on that topic, it's fine.

11. I understand your concern, but hear me out
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 12:48 AM by 0rganism
The reason I don't start a thread is that I don't want to turn freepers on to IMDB, let alone the F911 area. I've seen how it happens; one person starts a "Let's DU this poll" thread, then 20 minutes later someone else writes "It's getting freeped, big time", and as often as not, we're worse off than when we started. This is a bit lower key, I really doubt the assholes bother to read about our F-911 experiences anymore.

In the process of moderating, I've waded through scores of Michael Moore threads over the last two weeks. I know there are a lot of us watching the film and raving about it to each other, who, in turn, rave right back. My intention is to inform DUers that there is a place where they can go to make a difference, by taking on the people who's God-Given Mission is apparently to make shit up about Michael Moore.

In the last 3 days, I've put these requests in about 6 threads TOTAL. If that's your definition of "spamming", well, I'm sorry. Why not take some of that righteous weariness and redirect it toward the freepers at IMDB? Flex some muscle.

14. The cinema multiplex in my town's first showing is tomorrow.
The only time I can see it is for the first showing tomorrow morning so I intend on posting my views on every place I can afterwards. My original intent was to put some positive input into the Yahoo film critiques, but I will do your's as well. I just really do want to see the movie first before I say anything.

21. Since 'F9/11' is effectively exempt from rules regarding 'duplicates' ...
... the on-topic exhortation cannot be regarded as 'spam'. If the rules were enforced in a draconian fashion (i.e. obiesance to the duplicate rule in the face of near-DUniversal interest) then only one or two of these exhortations would be posted.

Wasn't it you that posted the F9/11 thread-of-threads showing the dozens upon dozens of threads regarding F9/11? While I personally might prefer a set of discrete pinned threads (DUer reviews, media reaction, audience reaction reports, etc.), my time as a mod tells me that herding DU cats intoxicated with this topical catnip is virtually impossible.

25. The demographics of that rating poll are very interesting.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361596/ratings

The bimodal distribution mirrors the political polarization of our nation. The more favorable attitudes of females v. males seems to also mirror the electorate. What I found most interesting is the significantly higher rating given by 1500 "Non-US users" (8.7) than by 6000 "US users" (7.5)

I take particular note of IMDb's approach to 'weighted average' ratings...
Weighted Average Ratings

IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. Various filters are applied to the raw data in order to eliminate and reduce attempts at 'vote stuffing' by individuals more interested in changing the current rating of a movie than giving their true opinion of it (*).

The exact methods we use will not be disclosed. This should ensure that the policy remains effective. The result is a more accurate vote average.

(*)The trouble with the global village are all the global village idiots. - Paul Ginsparg.

A quick calculation shows the arithmetic average to be 7.96 (8.0 rounded) ... as opposed to the 'weighted' average of 7.8. Obviously, the IMDb weighting algorithm is far more "effective" in quashing the favorable bias than the unfavorable bias - despite the rather obvious fact that those voting "1" are, by far, the least likely to have actually watched the movie.

You're welcome.

As far as I know, the censored 28 pages story and the related issue that Saudi officials may have helped the 19 hijackers faded away last year.

I hope we get answers soon.

People should start asking questions about this, again.

6. I heard it the other morning.
Moore said that the Saudi royal family owns 23% of DisneyLand Paris. He says that it was edited out of his interview with Stephanopolous (sp?) which is on ABC which is owned by Disney. He said that the assumption that Disney dropped the movie for fear of losing their tax breaks is only part of the story.

Michael Moore also got to say that on Al Franken's radio show.

ABC edited out that comment because Disney owns it. Isn't media conglomeration grand? Just a few years ago, Disney didn't own ABC. I wish someone had the courage to call for the breakup of the Big Five media companies.

23. The right spelling is George Strepocockolis
This interview was very good and takes us just one short hair away from the EXACT reason for 911 in the first place.....

No it wasn't Clinton.
It was Desert Storm and the obvious ties with the Saudi family that no doubt inspired the war.

In my opinion that pushed OBL over the edge.
He had considered the Soviets invasion of Afghanistan one of the most horrible acts against the region....but Desert Storm combined all that with what is viewed as decadence and corruption in terms of oil and ties with the royal family...which he has historically hated.

So now that we're in there again and forming a permanent military base for operations into the future....you can sure bet that 911 part II is now on the drawing board....

Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 01:29 AM by Lakerstan
More than just a "caller", Do you notice how Howard gives her first and last name? Very unusual for a DJ to do that. Here is her website:

Looks like she has an axe to grind.

22. Debbie "Eva Braun" Schlussel with an ax to grind?
(ROFL!) Debbie is a psycho - addicted to Kool-Aid. Her 'rice bowl' is dependent on being a tweeter in the Mighty Wurlitzer with which she became affiliated during the Reagan/Bush years. Not possessed of a Sanforized brain, her near total immersion in that filthy water for 15-20 years (did she finally peddle her virginity to a Young Republican while in college?) has resulted in more shrinkage than we see with boiled fleece.

She's the antithesis of David Brock - a functionary of the Scaifeist disinformation industry who overcame the threat of any emergent sanity with the probable assist of chemicals.

She's pitiful. Really. A real pod person.

19. Bill Clinton could have vetoed that bill
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 07:42 AM by DaveSZ
By signing Newt's media deregulation into law he paved the way for ABC to censor Moore and for the media to lie about Gore.

We need for Kerry to roll that bullshit back that Clinton screwed us with, but I don't know if he has the balls.

Let's lobby him hard.

every day!

and some kind of gimmick about guys (or "hot chicks," natch) sending in their ticket stubs; 75 will be drawn from a hat and win a party to "Scores," a strip club. Only Howard Stern. But what the hell: whatever works...

28. Stern has turned one of my family members into a staunch Kerry supporter
My aunt who was always very apolitical was backing me up on my *bashing last weekend. I was very surprised and pleased to hear her talk in such detail about subjects like the war, 9/11 time line and F911. I asked her where did she learn all of this information from, and she said, she heard it on Stern's show. She also mentioned that she is totally voting for Kerry!

I hope that this is a trend for all of Stern's listeners, because this is a rather large voting block all over the country.
