The Federal Marriage Amendment
E-mail I got from a very dim-witted neighbor:

Subject: July 15 vote on The Federal Marriage Amendment

I just took action on The Federal Marriage Amendment that will be voted on in the U.S. Senate on or around July 15. Please protect marriage in the United States by contacting your Senators today.

We sent E-Mails to those senators that were named as opposing the Marriage Amendment as well. Pat & Mel Hunter

Frankly, Scarlet....
Helen and I just returned from 2 weeks in the State of Massachusetts, Home of the Dreaded Same-Sex marriage.

I admit I was apprehensive. I reckoned that after a day or two under the influence of guys marrying guys, and gals marrying gals, our marriage of 35 years would crumble and I'd be looking for a good divorce lawyer.

Oddly enough, nothing happened. Who knew?

3. Interesting situation.
He's our new property owners' assoc. prez.
As such, he's got the neighborhood e-mail list.
Started sending rw political stuff to all.
He'll get his head handed to him, even by the repubs.
We don't use the local list for crap like that.

4. Ask him if he cares about state's rights
If he does, ask him why he supports an amendment that removes one of the fundamental powers of State government, domestic law, and gives that power to the Federal government?

Ask him how one makes sense of a document which claims "No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws" and then goes on to say that a state can deny a marriage certificate to a man simply because he is a man?

I'm sorry, but I have less than no respect for people who support the Federal Marriage Amendment. The only people who can possibly support such an abomination are either ignorant, and have not thought the matter through, foolish, and are incapable of forming a rational opinion, or malicious, and know that their position is irrational and discriminatory and harmful, and simply don't care.

5. they should all take a field trip
We should sponsor field trips for the fundies to come visit Massachusetts for a week. They'll see nothing's really changed as a result of gay marriage. We're the same arrogant, inhospitable bastards we've always been here in Mass.
