Good News Re: F9/11 & Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Comments
Country radio station my mom listens to has two morning DJ's -- a guy and a girl -- who worship NASCAR. When they are doing the news every half hour in the morning, they often defend Bush and think he's a great guy -- a "down-to-earth, humble, Christian guy".

They aren't Freepers in the sense that most of their support for Bush comes from the fact that they haven't really been exposed to anything different -- THANKS LIBERAL MEDIA! :hi:

When they found out that Dale Junior (their favorite driver) had said that everyone should go see the movie, they were talking about going. My mom called in and told them that I had gone and planned to go again with more people and that I recommended it highly. She told them that when I had gone, many grown men in the theater had been moved to tears. Both decided on the spot that they would see the movie.

I believe they'll be going this week. Once they get back, you can bet that their audience is going to be hearing all about their experience.

2. I think Mr. Earnhardt's opinion is nothing but good
It will help rationalize the decision to see the movie for more then a few people.

4. I've been looking for a thread at Freerepublic on this and
this is all I could find.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1161760/posts

It seems the mods are deleting threads on the subject. I wonder why?

11. Just Like They Destroyed
Michael Moore's movie by making it the first ever documentary to debut at #1.

Man, if only I could get the Freepers to "destroy" me, too.

19. There's a difference between Dale Jr and the Dixie Chicks or Moore
Southern NASCAR country music fans may not know much about Moore except what they hear on the news, and they may not have ever really fully understood the Dixie Chicks, who were a little odd for country, and young, and not taken to seriously.

Dale Earnhardt is loved. He's loved because of his father, and because of his father's tragic death. He's loved for the class he's handled the tragedy with, and he's loved and respected because he's proven he can race, rather than just riding on his father's name.

Bush may not win that battle. Their best option here is to shut up and hope no one noticed it. Check out the back of the cars in front of you. In the south, anyway, you'll see just as many 3s and 8s as Bush/Cheney sticker. Bush is taking on royalty.

23. Bingo!
Dale Jr is his own man and speaks his own mind. He is the most popular driver in NASCAR, hands down. I don't for one minute underestimate the power of his words. This is huge. :)

7. atrios and daily kos
and goodness knows how many liberal bloggers linked to a freeper Earnhardt thread yesterday. Their comments didn't show them in a "very good light". LOL

Do freepers have enough sense to recognize bad PR or are they guarding their bandwidth???

They already pulled that one, and have a link back to this thread, I guess as an explanation. Pretty funny.

5. I might wind up liking Jr. more than his dad, and I didn't think that poss
I have a feeling about Jr. Remember W's photo-op at Daytona, where he landed behind the track, snarled traffic, delayed the start, and then left early so that fans would see Air Force One taking off over the stadium?

Daytona is a hallowed site for NASCAR in the first place, and crassly politicizing it does not play well with fans. Plus, fans are a lot more educated (it takes a lot of money to go to Daytona-- we aren't talking poor, uneducated rednecks) than assumed. Bush's sophmoric PR stunt backfired, as many fans felt Bush was treating them as idiots, expecting them to salivate over his very appearance. So NASCAR fans aren't as enamored of the cult of Bush as is assumed.

But Daytona means something more to Jr. His dad died there, to help him. That track is sacred to him. And Bush defiled it. I can only imagine how Dale has to feel about that.

8. Poor, uneducated southern rednecks....
This is such a myth. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of rednecks. And you'll find plenty of khaki-pants-penny-loafer-wearing white collar people at races too. I go to Bristol every year with 2 CPAs and a physician from Ohio.

21. Exactly
And redneck doesn't mean dumb. A lot of my friends from high school became engineers. They wear faded jeans and worn out flannel shirts three sizes too small, and they are dirty a lot, and they have college degrees and decent incomes. Some of the smartest people I knen growing up live in trailers and work as plumbers or electricians. There is so much elitism, even in the Democratic Party, that sees these people as dumb because they aren't living in suburbs or driving trendy cars.

Bush is popular with them because they only see the CNN Bush, and because their preachers have told them Bush is one of them. But when Bush treats them like idiots, he proves he isn't.

It is very interesting that the Freepers pulled the threads on destroying Dale Jr. I wonder why they did this.

20. Freeper mentality
The Earnhardt hysteria provides the perfect illustration of the difference between "them" and "us." Their panicked reaction to the possibility that people on "their" side might see the movie shows how weak they are. Our side is already champing at the bit to see whatever they can throw up against us so that we can refute it. Can you imagine people posting on this board threatening people who want to see their garbage?

Talk about a bunch of sissies sitting at their keyboards having apoplexy. Unbelievable!

22. Dale Jr.
As a democrat who is also a Nascar fan, I am often at odds with many of my fellow Nascar fans. Dale Jr. is a different breed. He goes against the grain and he is not afraid of speaking his mind. He recently stated that Nascar told him not to get any Tattoos because Nascar feels that it goes against thier "wholesome family image". Nevermind that half of the fans have tatoos and the other half are considering it. This is why I like Dale.
