Man overheard saying Kucinich should be president of the Soviet Union
I was doing some shopping earlier today and I heard this exchange in a crowded elevator:

Woman: Whose that little guy who is always bashing Bush?

Man: Oh, that's Dennis Kucinich.

Woman: Oh, I don't like him. He always seems so angry and so bitter.

Man: He'd be a great president of the Soviet Union.

(Laughter)

1. Can we send these people to the "Soviet Union"?
...maybe the alternate past reality where the Soviet Union HAD a President?

3. I know where I'd send them
It's not that I'm a Dennis man, but these doozies prefer the Bush monkey?

16. Technically the USSR had a president
"Mikhail Gorbachev General Secretary March 11, 1985 - March 14, 1990 and President of the Soviet Union March 14, 1990 - December 25, 1991"

2. Reagan quote: "Mr. Kuchinich, tear down this wall"
But seriously,I hate it when ignorant, Chimpy ass kissing ostrichs think they're so clever by attacking anyone who questions their Fuhrer.

I call them asstriches. An ostrich has his head in the sand, an asstrich has his head up his ass.

4. He's right to be angry and bitter
Unfortunately every day people aren't connecting his anger to their every day life. And maybe to the credit of the DLC, perhaps they're trying to change Democratic focus to presenting liberal ideas in economic terms because that's what most Americans respond to. What would Dennis' message be if it focused on the improvement it would bring to our economy instead of just being the decent thing to do?

8. More enlightened thought from people
too ignorant to research the issues and reason intelligently.

This country really did deserve George Bush and will deserve whatever the next elections bring.

Wailing and gnashing of teeth coming big time.

I hope you told this idiot that the Soviet Union hasn't existed for over a decade.

Might be time for such idiots to catch up- only at that point will they even start to be able to weigh in intelligently.

9. If you didn't point out there is no Soviet Union anymore, you should have
I would have, and I would have said "They didn't have Presidents either, numbnuts."

Then I would have spit in the woman's face. How's that for angry and bitter, you fucking twit?

Thank God I've never owned a gun, or I would have shot someone by now.

11. They called them Premier
But it was the General Secretary of the Communist Party that was in charge.
That started with Stalin, who used his position as General Secretary to eliminate his enemies.

13. has it occurred to anyone
that perhaps the person wasn't speaking literally? That perhaps he's trying to say DK's platform is outdated and way, way too far to the left to be of any use to anyone in 2003 or beyond? I find it difficult to believe that anyone who would be familiar with Dennis Kucinich is unaware of the fall of the Soviet Union. Just a thought.

17. Why do I think this conversation in a crowded elevator was

staged? Easy, I figure most people who have political or religious conversations in public are really doing a little lobbying.

19. In defense of the ignoramus: at least he understands that both DK & the
USSR had/have SOMETHING to do with the general idea of improving the lot of working men & women! For this kernel of truth alone, he's considerably more "sophisticated" than most Americans.
