how it reminded them of a time when things were pervaded by a strange kind of "heady, upbeat and electric energy" and when things were boundlessly optimistic, for reality would doubtlessly set in and we all would have to wonder if it would EVER again be that way in our lifetimes, with things like :nuke: terrorism not to mention even :nuke: war as possibilities we may all have to face.

1. I had a little too much of that upbeat, electric energy
while reading The Clinton Wars. I don't know if I can take anymore. ;)

when Clinton was FIRST INAGURATED. :)

It's scary and a little depressing to think about. I wonder if the Eisenhower/McCarthy years felt something like this, but then I realize that Watergate didn't even feel like this. This really feels like the end of the world as we knew it.

4. Wonder if it were even enough to make you nostalgic for the mid to late
1970's when the state of "national malaise" the U.S. seemed to be less severe and the American President seemed to give a hoot.
