DU this Poll! From the IL Leader
http://www.illinoisleader.com/news/newsview.asp?c=15467

In the wake of the release of the Jack Ryan custody documents, how do you feel about Jack Ryan?
1. I Support Jack.
2. I Do Not Support Jack but Do Not Think He Should Step Down.
3. Jack Should Step Down as the GOP Candidate for US Senate.
4. Undecided.
****

DUers: Pick #2 if you want to help Obama.

Okay, so a silly poll doesn't affect his defeat. I just enjoy polls. I enjoy messing with polls, to be precise.

2. Loved those quotes!
"I'm just glad it's released and it's over with. The sword of Damocles turns out to be made of papier mache." ~ State Sen. Steve Rauschenberger , who lost to Ryan in the primary election

"He did something like that? Only a Republican." ~ State Senate President Emil Jones

"Divorce cases and child custody cases are by nature acrimonious, and allegations on all sides are often unreliable or sensationalized. The Jack Ryan that I know very well is a good and decent man. He has a lifetime of achievement and accomplishment and good works and I support him and continue to support him with enthusiasm and confidence." ~ U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald, who is retiring and whom Ryan is hoping to replace.

6. read the forums there... scary
The IL GOP is and has always been a scary thing. While we Dems can claim both Daley's (for good or ill) and Harold Washington, what great Chicago mayor can they count? Why "Big" Bill Thompson! The man who was on Al Capone's payroll!!! wh00t!

And don't forget, the recent Ryan, the crook and governor of the state. Of course, we do have Rod... and he's not working out so well.

7. Yep. Rod sucks. He has totally sold out education in IL.
Hey, fellow Lovecraft fan, have you seen "Dark Corners of the Earth" yet?

I can't wait to be turned into a quivering mute by the horrors that await me in Innsmouth.

10. Hey, you're in Chicago!
Have you been the the Century in Evanston yet? If not, see F 9/11 there! It is the best theater ever. The person in the seat in front of you only comes up to your shin, and the armrests fold up. Mrs. Cat and I have our tix and are rearin' to go!

11. kewl. we like the new theater in Streeterville.
It, also, has the stadium seating you are talking about. And pointing and laughing at the over-painted, over dressed, fur wearing rich snobs down there is always a hoot. Plus Mrs. Apnu and I can get there pretty easily by the train.

We are planning on going on Saturday or Sunday. As much as I'd love to get to a Friday night show, we are expecting protesters, who I'd love to give the finger too as I wave my ticket around. But we also hate crowds, so we're planning on going to an earlier show after opening night.

Now, if they'd just get AAR back in Chi-town, I'd be on 7th heaven.

15. We're going on Sunday,
but not because of the potential protesters. Mrs. Cat just wants to avoid a long wait in line. The protesters probably won't even materialize here, anyway.

8. I Just Posted In The Illinois Forum...Something Really Smells
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=150&topic_id=491&mesg_id=491

Something just tells me the wheels are turning in the Rove War room...the tip off was LaHood and his mock indignation; purely a soundbite for hate radio directed right from the White House.

Methinks I see a "Lautenberg" here...they knew Ryan was damaged goods but used him to finese through the primaries and keep the undesirable Repugnicans out of the race...the, knowing this goon's dirty laundry, would force him out and put someone more to their liking and avoiding any local or state party control/scrutiny.

It just seems too convenient that James "911" Thompson's been trotted around and here's a chance to bring this old clothes horse out of "retirement"

Anyway...all I can say to Obama is run a commercial saying "...and now we know why Jack Ryan knows about video cameras"

Cheers!

12. Something else smells in this poll
I went to vote, and it rejected it, telling me that I had already voted (which I hadn't). Guess it didn't like my vote!

Bush still not on Illinois ballot

Wednesday, June 02, 2004

By The Leader-Chicago Bureau

SPRINGFIELD -- The name "George W. Bush" or "Dick Cheney" may not appear at the top of Illinois' November 2 General Election ballot.

As the Illinois General Assembly went home on Tuesday warned they could receive a 24 hour notice to return if a budget agreement was made, there was no agreement to modify the state's election law to allow President Bush and Vice-President Cheney on the fall ballot.

“The Republicans will have to go to a federal judge and get a declaratory judgment to get Bush on the ballot,” Kris Kray, legislative liaison for the state's election board, said.

That is exactly what may happen, State Senator Wendell Jones (R-Palatine) told IllinoisLeader.com today.

"I think the federal judges would put the President back on the ballot," he said. " are not going to vote for it when it comes to the floor. We want a bill that puts Bush on the ballot without loading it up.”

What a bunch of morons! Sure, I think it would be hilarious to see Bush and Cheney as 'write-in' candidates.

Although...what if they planned this as a Florida 2000-type thing?
