Peaceful crowd gets innovative with its insults

August 15, 2003

Several hundred protesters, virtually all of them well-behaved, accused President Bush of everything from failed public policies to devil worship during a demonstration outside the San Diego Convention Center yesterday.

The crowd was loud but orderly, and also very creative. One man was dressed up as Pinocchio, except his fake long nose was attached to a mask of the president. Someone wore a T-shirt declaring, "A village in Texas is missing an idiot."

........a woman who held a sign that read, "Bush = Subliminable Criminable."

skip..........

"Bush, You Lied, You're Fired," the banner declared. A member of San Diegans Against Bush's First Illegal War said the banner represented a pink slip.

Bush's motorcade left the convention center at 7:15 p.m. Minutes later, a stream of luxury vehicles departed the convention center parking lot – BMWs, Jaguars, Porsches, Lexuses and any number of SUVs.

The crowd convulsed with cat-calls and taunts, several of the drivers responded with middle fingers. Then the protest was finished and everyone left.

2. Several people in Bush's Inaugural motorcade....
Gave us the finger as they were rushed by us to the White House.

Brr, that was a cold, wet, and icy day.

3. Not sure what to make of this.
That paints a very disturbing picture in my mind. I've always thought of people such as these (motorcade drivers) to be apolitical, that they were just doing there job. For them to make what is in effect, a political statement alters that perception considerably. Of course, they should have political views and express them freely, but not in the course of duty; there's something smelly about that and I'm not sure what it is.

4. It wasn't the hired drivers flipping the bird
it was more than likely the snooty passengers who paid $25,000 to be at that fundraiser.

7. Not only that, that means they are getting cocky about being
in charge. What do they know that we don't?

5. Any photos of this?
It'd go great with a label like:

"Restoring Honor and Integrity to the White House"

6. Something does not make sense.
An official presidential motorcade usually does not include foreign cars. I know the bird was flipped by Bush supporters but that might not have been part of his motorcade.
