Was he really that bad? I mean, sure, he hemmed and hawed a bit, not unusual for speaking off the cuff. But he did manage to articluate "veracity" and got his points accross. He didn't trip, choke, or mispronunciate -- not a high standard for a president, I know, but seriously what was so damning?

I caught only a litle of it clicking around (for ANYthing besides power outage pablum) when it first came on, figuring it for the usual, hardly-any-longer-entertaining gibberish, but found and watched the cbs clip last night. Sobering. (yukyuk)

Then I looked around c-span for a complete version, since I understood that there were "reporters' questions" at the end, and I saw none in the cbs clip. Maybe my realplayer flaked, whatever.

But I found it not at c-span then, and guess I'll continue checking today. One of the things I really, really enjoy about the c-span version of such presentations is how they often show before-beginning to after-ending coverage. Complete with mustering before the mic and apres milling, coat-hat-&-pursing, etc., including sometimes WTF looks and exchanges, note-comparing.

I particularly seek the c-span version of this because I recall that a few hours (?) before this was broadcast, I had heard David Bloom (?) or maybe a cnn wh reporter explaining to his anchor that no, HE wouldn't be covering the upcoming remarks, but rather a "sort of wh pool" would do the honors BUTBUTBUT the way he said it was like it was not actually the wh pool, but something kinda like that. Maybe the "body watch" detail?

Anyway, my bs radar flickered, so I wanna know: is or will there be a full version available; who were the reporters, names and orgs; how was this produced, i.e., as a public, offical wh event (reachable by FOIA?); since it came squeezed between campaign events (?), could it have been a re-elect aWol production, property of today's CREEP?

Were the nearly empty bookshelves symbolic merely of aWol's "thoughts"? Of that wierd room? Of the free press vigilance of the public interest and right to know?

You have to feel sorry for baseball announcers when they have to keep talking during a rain delay. They they have to find 50 different ways to say We're just sitting here waiting for the rain to stop ....

Bush is in a similar situation to the rain delay baseball announcers. His handlers have pushed him in front of the camera but they haven't given him enough material to work with. He thanks the state and local authorities; hopes that electricity will soon be restored; expresses gratitude that it's not a terrorist attack; then returns to thanking the state and local authorities, etc. It's embarrassing! He acts like he's thinking: What do I do now? Tap dance?
