2. It's like a train wreck
You don't want to look but you can't help yourself. I find myself flipping to it during commerical breaks in the Twins game.

I hate myself for it.

9. I love the irony of these 'stop posting about Reagan!' Reagan posts
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 09:09 PM by jpgray
It calls for a break from dozens of Reagan threads by starting a Reagan thread itself. That said, it's my favorite kind of Reagan thread. ;-)

(and I'm just goofing around, no offense taken or intended from or to your post)

24. None taken.
I wasn't really asking for anyone to stop posting. My question was more of a "if your arm hurts when you lift it, why do you keep lifting your arm?" kind of question. :silly:

In fact, I find it humorous, in a completely morbid way, that Reagan, even 15 years after his presidency and even after he's DEAD, for cryin' out loud, STILL annoys the crap out of most of us!

28. I'm glad you think it's funny.
Personally I'm more than "annoyed" at St. Ronnie because my family is still dealing with the reprecussions of his policies some 20 years later. My mom, a retired VA nurse and army vet, has to work per diem to make ends meet because her 30 years of government service meant nothing to St. Ronnie and his crowd. Her pension was *halved* thanks to Ronnie. That's a lot of frelling money, and we are not terribly rich people.

My arm hurts because it was chopped off and I couldn't afford painkillers.

30. As you may realize, I meant the "morbid" more than the "humorous".
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 10:43 PM by boxster
Forgive me, as I didn't mean to sound amused. I meant humorous in more of a wry-smile-when-something-bad-happens-so-you-don't-cry kind of way. The guy is dead, yet the gross misinterpretation of his legacy so angers us that we can't help but talk about it. That seems so very wrong that all I can do is laugh sarcastically.

I so despised Ronald Reagan when he was President that I doubted I could dislike a public figure that much again. Until W came along.

My personal peeve with Reagan was that he singlehandedly destroyed the education system in this country. If memory serves, the education budget when he arrived was $51 billion/year and $8 billion/year when he left.

All while claiming that teachers were the foundation of our future. What a crock.

My mom was a teacher in the state ranked 50th in teacher pay at the time. Funding was cut so drastically that the teachers started buying their own supplies, etc. (Essentially, exactly what's happening now thanks to NCLB).

Again, sorry if I sounded amused by all of this. It's not really amusement - it's more like the morbid curiosity that makes people slow down next to car accidents and the like.

10. It's like this:
The media coverage is a bunch of lies. Hadn't you noticed?

DU has the truth. There are some readers who will never know the truth unless we dish it out, here and now.

Thing is... some can't handle the truth!

posting Reagan threads. I find it morbidly humorous that Reagan, even after he's dead, still annoys the living crap out of most of us.

He's irrelevant, yet it's all we can talk about. I think we need a psychiatrist! Hehe....

21. Almost makes me want to emulate the Freeptard I saw a year ago.
He had a crudely hand-lettered bumper stick on his POS car. It said "Wellstone is dead. Get over it." The dork was fortunate that we were driving, because if I had met him in a parking lot, I would have had to call him the asshole that he was.

As far as the naming stuff after Mr. Reagan, I'd like to see Congress insist that *'s executive order sealing the Reagan administration's papers be overturned first. Didn't we learn anything from the Nixon fiasco?

27. Yeah, the difference is that Wellstone was killed in the prime of his life
in a plane crash. Ronbo died at age 93 after ten years of barely living.

If that isn't the ultimate example of "life isn't fair", I'm not sure what is!

23. Reagan is dead. Gone. We will never have to go through this again.
Thank God!!! I don't watch TV. But I am sickened at the orgiastic media coverage I have seen on every major American news source on the internet. The republicans obviously used this as some type of campaign vehicle. If it works on Americans, they are too stupid to breathe and think at the same time. It has been thoroughly disgusting. The guy was nothing but an actor that became a puppet president who presided over the most corrupt administration in American history. He exemplifies, even in death, the republican philosophy that image is more important than substance.

Republicans have succeeded in inflicting the ultimate ironic insult on the American people - the media sanctification of an undeniably corrupt leader.
