Why is Barbara Bush wearing white to a funeral?

Ok, so, since I dont have cable, I have no choice but to watch Reagan's funeral...and the one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is that Barbara Bush is wearing this white/sliver thing...everyone else is wearing black out of respect, cause that is what you do at a funeral...why is she wearing white...


I'm honestly curious here, it was obviously a conscious choice, and I dont understand why?

And, dark blue, gray, brown, even deep deep darkest shade of purple would have been perfectly appropriate. Even with the less lax standards of today, I still think darker colors are more appropriate.

Some here have chaffed at any suggestion of a "dress code," and why basic acceptance of and adherence to a dress code might be considered a sign of respect. Well, all I can say is that I heartily disagree.

but not everyone wears black, blue or other "mourning colors" to a funeral. Furthermore, different cultures have different colors.

At my great-aunt's funeral last summer, her daughters wore lavender. Only her siblings and in-laws stuck to tradition. Still, there is no one way to dress for mourning.

first ladies and 99% of the women in attendance wore BLACK! I watched the whole thing on C-Span and that includes until the last female left the National Cathedral, and indeed Babs was not appropriate.

Only 3 women I saw didn't have all black, on and those four had some black in their outfits but a different colored sweater topper, or one woman with a black and white print dress.

It's possible you confused her with someone else.

54. Well, I've heard of kids wearing white...

to funerals - there are some old traditions to that effect and I've heard of Pagans/Wiccans wearing white (and I'm sure there are other cultures around the world where it's appropriate) but I can't think of any reason why someone with Bab's background would wear white other than to get attention. People will talk and she will come up with a grand reason and take some attention away from Nancy, however fleetingly.
