Which Candidate For Higher Office Said This About Gay Sex?
"I have no sexual standard that is good or that is bad.Homosexual-that only means to me he enjoys sex with a man and I enjoy sex with a woman. It's all legitimate to me."

6. It Was Arnold
I doubt any conventional candidate would defend it in those absolute terms.

Arnold is stating gay sex is a preference, no different than having a Bic Mac instead of a Whopper.

I doubt any poll driven politician would make that clear an argument.

They always couch their approval by invoking tolerance as if gay sex is something to be tolerated.

I'm not gay and I wouldn't vote for Arnold but I hope he stays where he's at on individual rights. In this fight he's on the side of the angels.

I also know lots of bodybuilders.

A girly man is an effete man.

Not all gay men are effete and not all effete men are gay.

I hate straw man arguments.

11. I'm having a little trouble here.
Maybe I'm dense but what are you saying?

According to Webster:

Effete = 1. — Syn. weakened, decadent, exhausted, spent, soft, overrefined, enervated, debilitated, worn out, played out, bloodless, etiolated; see also weak 1.

Certainly you aren't equating these characteristics with women in general - are you? Or just males who act "girlie"?

PS I'm not looking for an argument - just a clarification.

:-)

12. No-Absolutely Not
Here's my take.....

Maybe girly-man was a poor choice of words but I don't think it's fair to infer from that Aronold was making an anti-gay statement.

And I don't think he was defaming women.

I guess an argument could me made that all jokes in that vein are in bad taste and I would endorse it for the sake of comity but I would also be a hypocrite cuz I do find some of them funny.

13. Thanks for the explanation
Just for the record I am transgender MtF. I have personality traits from both sides.

While I can feel very female internally (and can look that way externally) - I don't believe I am at all like the definition of effete:

1. — Syn. weakened, decadent, exhausted, spent, soft, overrefined, enervated, debilitated, worn out, played out, bloodless, etiolated; see also weak 1.

I feel no unusual need to be competitive with other males (or females) but I have no problem defending myself if necessary - either physically or verbally if someone wants to challenge me. Actually, males are usually very polite - while some (few) females have been otherwise.

But I'm a special case. The important point is that in my experience I have found women in general can be just as courageous and brave as men. (Not all women are courageous, nor are all males.) For example, I don't think many men would ever subject themselves to childbirth if they had to make that choice.

Much of what passes for male courage in our culture is actually bravado - many males grow up feeling inferior in a system that glorifies the John Wayne type male. IMHO much of child and spousal abuse by males in our society, rape, etc. is an attempt by injured males to evercome their feelings of inadequacy. Instead of protecting the weak (the stereotype) they prey on them.

Again, I don't mean to be argumentative. I'm just more sensitive to potentially damaging male-female stereotypes than most I guess.

Cheers.
