Sex-change woman sues over 'terrible mistake'
A Transsexual who spent £60,000 on surgery to become a woman is suing her doctor after claiming that he misdiagnosed her with gender dysphoria.

Samantha Kane, 44, had the operation to change her gender seven years ago but now claims that the sex change was a terrible mistake.

After living as a woman since the surgery, Ms Kane, who lives in Newcastle upon Tyne, says that she was misdiagnosed and wants to find a way to restore male genitals to her body.

She is suing Dr Russell Reid, a consultant psychiatrist, for £186,442 personal injury compensation. She alleges that he negligently allowed healthy male organs to be removed and failed to properly advise her once he found out her medical history.

8. I have what? COOL! Now I can act like a woman and get my dick cut off!
Wheee! I'm CURED!!!........as if.

Just because a doctor diagnoses you with gender dysmorphia doesn't mean now you have to go out and get a sex change. Thats a decision you make all on your own. Besides the very fact that he was having problems and confusion concerning his gender implies that he had some sort of gender dysmorphia!

10. I don't begin to understand gender dysphoria
but since I've had to cope with pre and post surgical transsexuals, I just accept it. There are a lot of things in the world I don't have to understand, just accept.

However, it's a pretty close call when a gay transvestite goes in for any sort of evaluation and treatment. It's easy to see how such a diagnosis can be made, and easy to see how a gay transvestite would regret the loss of his parts. They're separate things on the often weird continuum of human sexuality.

The operation can be reversed, at enormous cost, and with less than ideal results. Let's hope she gets more than one opinion this time.

12. dont they go through counseling...
before and after surgery? its an invasive and life changing operation. if this woman was having doubts they probably would have come up in sessions and wouldnt a counselor be obligated to tell the surgeon?

if there was no counselling, or bad counselling, i can see there being some lawsuit. but if she's just having seconds thoughts, shes out of luck, in my opinion.
