Horrifying LTTE in tomorrow's Journal-Sentinel:
Send a strong message to al-Qaida members

"An al-Qaida leader has said 4 million Americans will have to be killed as a prerequisite to any Islamic victory," according to the May 26 article "Major assault on U.S. feared."

To end World War II, President Truman used the atomic bomb on Japan to prevent any more Americans from being killed. Japan surrendered after to horrendous bombings of two of its larger cities. Truman had the will to do what it took to save American lives. Where are such leaders today?

If an al-Qaida leader made the threat, the intent is to bring America to its knees. Why are we pussyfooting around with this group? Why not warn al-Qaida that if it brings its terrorist attacks to America, we will choose a country that is known to harbor the group and wipe out that country's largest cities - one by one, a la Truman - then move on to another country that harbors the group until there is no place for al-Qaida and its ilk to hide.

This might be the only way for America's self-preservation. I'd call it self-defense. I wonder how many 9-11 victims' families would agree.

Wow. I'm speechless.

1. Unfortunately the letter writer is not alone. Too many heartless
fundamentalist nuts in the world. And many of them are OUR government. (Bush, Ashcroft, DeLay, Frist, Santorum, etc. etc.)

2. Gee, I wonder if ol' Casper has a country in mind?
I'm betting it's Iraq, and I'm also betting that good ol' Casper is a long standing member of Fretard Republic too.

4. The "Nuke 'Em" meme has been mainstreamed.
bushlerco is totally capable of unleashing nuclear destruction.

The fact of the matter is, however, that we have effectively nuked Iraq with the preponderence of depleted uranium ordinance we have deployed, the dust of which has made the entire country unlivable for any specie. The deadly after effects of this crime have been felt by the Iraqi people for a decade.

In our name, with our money.

5. Another Right Wing Loonie
Right wingers are simple-minded, but some are so simple-minded they stand out even among other right wingers. These people know we're losing the war in Iraq, and that we're not making progress in the war on terror. They don't have the imagination to consider any other strategies besides the ones we're already using.

If killing Arabs isn't intimidating them, why then we'll have to kill more of them until it does!

14. So That is What
"Stay the course means." Keep killing until we are the only ones left. And to think, I thought Shrub was mad.

22. "Mad" as in angry or "mad" as in mentally unstable? Or both?
I think both, but I think Bush's mental instability is a much greater danger than his anger.

Did the writer consider for one moment that perhaps the timing of this threat is slightly suspicious? Bush is going down in the polls, so...the threat level must go up.

Of course, we will be attacked. Or at least scared out of our wits that one may occur. It's an election year, remember? And Bush cannot win if there are no "threats".

Duh.

7. How do you define "harbor?"
"Why not warn al-Qaida that if it brings its terrorist attacks to America, we will choose a country that is known to harbor the group and wipe out that country's largest cities - one by one, a la Truman - then move on to another country that harbors the group until there is no place for al-Qaida and its ilk to hide."

This dolt understands about as much about fighting subnational terrorist organizations as our President does. The cells we're trying to root out are spread all over the world... and many of them are in FRIENDLY COUNTRIES.

Hell- Al Qaeda is hiding HERE IN THE U.S. for heaven's sake. Would this guy propose nuking Boston, Chicago, or Portland, Oregon?

9. Graffiti I saw last night: NUKE FALLUJAH
I guess they must all believe in the rapture.

I don't believe we have ever been in more danger. We have a war, and both sides are insane. Only one has weapons of mass destruction, but it is led by a group of delusional egomaniacs who will stop at nothing.

I was born right after the Cuban Missle Crisis, and I don't ever remember a time that seemed darker, not even during the Cold War, which scared the hell out of me, and filled my childhood with nightmares.

This is the moment! We are the peopleness!

10. If the goal is to help AlQueada recruit more members
this idea would work.
The last thing the US needs to do is declare open season on Muslim countries. After all there are 1 billion Muslims in the world. Not a great PR stunt to win hearts and minds.

11. Al Queda is now dispersed through . .
Edited on Sat May-29-04 08:50 PM by msmcghee
. . dozens of nations. Most of those nations don't know where they are or how to catch them or don't want to anger them or are possibly even aiding them secretly.

How would killing millions of innocent civilians in some Arab nation make al Queda not attack us? Do you think they care if some more Arabs die? They understand that is the price to pay for victory over us. Do you see any Arabs in Palestine begging Hamas or Islamic Jihad to quit attacking Isrealis? Of course not. The more Palestinians that are killed by the IDF, the more sign up to be martyrs. Such is the nature of the true believer.

Also, that would just work to their advantage, anyway. The rest of the civilized world (along with any remaining Moslems) would hate us to our core if we did something like that . . as they should. Now they just despise us for electing an idiot prince as president - but are hopeful we have seen our stupidity and are ready to correct course.

Thanks to *'s utterly stupid handling of events since 9/11 there is probably no sure way now to keep Americans from getting killed in large numbers by radical Islamists in the months and years to come.

No matter what we do it will happen. We can only hope to minimize it now.

If there was any chance for us now we'd have to fundamentally change how we relate to them and the rest of the world. We'd have to start by apologizing sincerely and admitting we were wrong and pay serious restitution to the people of Iraq for what we have done to them and their country. We'd have to do some serious groveling - after sending this whole administration and most repuke members of congress packing, humiliated.

Think that's going to happen? Ha! Americans would rather get wiped out - and they may well get their chance. Such is the nature of the true believer.

Welcome to the holy wars of the second millenium. Just what Osama wanted.

The repugs have been looking for a good excuse to nuke the whole state of Massachusetts since at least 1972.

Either way it's a monumentaly stupid approach. When you're in a hole and the shit's getting deeper - stop digging.

23. Hi, msmccghee
I started this thread....I hope you don't think I'm advocating nuking anything.
The LTTE just made me sit here, stunned, for a few minutes. He seems to be advocating genocide. And the JS printed that.

16. Remember, the US dropped the bombs on civilians...not military.
It was supposed to have saved American lives but the war was actually over and the Axis had been defeated and we knew it. Dropping the bombs was actually an atomic test.

18. I've seen numerous letters in the Sun-Sentinel (S Flor)
That echoe this sentiment.

Hiroshima/Nagasaki/Dresden are used as examples. Most of the letter writers say "Warn them first--if one more attack..." then blow them to hell.

It is sick. These letters have been in the online editions -- have been popping up over the last few months.

19. these guys need a "Christmas Carol" kind of awakening
I'd like to see these guys sat down in a chair and given the button to nuke a major city. Let them do it, then let them walk among the dead and incinerated. Let them walk through the hospitals of mangled burned children.

When they finally lose their minds, tell them it was all just fake. They didn't really do it.

Kinda like Scrooge or It's a Wonderful Life
