would we actually stand by and accept a draft at this time in history? i am not ready to give up my son for this bullshit, and i know i might do something irrational if it happens.

1. Good question....
unfortunately, I have a feeling that the American people are such
docile sheeple when it comes to standing up against their own
government that I think the draft will start....and nobody will
flinch.

Everything for the glory of the empire, citizen... :eyes:

3. They aren't flinching now because the draft hasn't started
but as much as protestors created anti-VietNam sentiment...it wasn't til the body bags of tens of thousands of drafted people came home that the war ended.

5. And when the riot police start bashing skulls....
and the hard-right start to belittle more people...and when the
media continues their 24x7 filth...
The sheeple will quiver in fear.

Sorry...I don't think the Americans living here today are the same
as the generation that fought in WWII...no conviction.

2. I won't. My child is too precious to sacrifice him NOT TO DEFEND
OUR COUNTRY but to invade, kill, steal, for the BFEE and Bush*co.

6. No way in Hell.
I will kill the first SSS motherfucker that lays a hand on my son. And the second one, and the one after that, etc. I have a medal from the Army that says I'm good with a rifle.

I don't care if the draft comes from bu$h, Kerry or the Pope. I will NOT send a soldier into the War To Make Dick Cheney Rich. Try me.

8. Actually it will be the FBI that comes after you
Edited on Sat May-29-04 11:30 AM by Dems Will Win
Just like in Vietnam. They would arrive at your door and arrest you for DRAFT EVASION.

Canada's out with the new border policies.

Have to just defeat Bush, I guess. See, Kerry has a NO-DRAFT PLAN! (ask me about it)

(Easier than a shootout with the FBI, you know)

9. "Our" kids? As opposed to the expendable "their" kids?
The poor trailer trash you want to hire to do your fighting for you?

Your kid is, of course, better than that. Meant for better things. Congress, maybe, which has not one child in this fight.

If your kids won't fight, they'll find out it's THEIR nation.

Nobody wants to lose a child. Nobody. But it's fine with you if "they" do, right?

Democracy ends when its citizens won't fight for it.

Either we're all in this together, or we aren't a nation.

13. democracy has nothing to do with this war. what about YOUR kids?
i don't give a shit who's kids get drafted, i don't want ANY of them drafted, not yours, not mine, not for this fake war. it isn't a war, and it isn't defending america's freedom. where in the world did you ever get that notion?

10. If there's to be a draft, a good case will have to be made
If Kerry wants to try to make the case, I'm willing to listen. He hasn't lost his credibility yet.

Bush can't make a good case any longer. He's lied more often than he's told the truth. He has so little credibility that couldn't make a good case for a healthy diet.

16. All Volunteer Force...
Was a success... if the goal was to make sure that only poor kids with no options, or middle class kids with few options (for whatever reason) served in the military. If the goal was to make sure the nation would be defended by the very people it has done the least to help was the goal then all volunteer was a total sucess.

But, as a element in our ever evolving national strategy it has been a dismal failure! Why? Because when you come right down to it the average american could shit care less how many volunteers get killed. Until you start getting non-volunteers killed, america's response seems to be "well if the dumb ass was stupid enough to join the service..." The result? War mongering politicians are able to get away with murder (literally) when it comes to starting wars. The War Powers act gives the President a frightening amount of authority in this area.

On the other hand I don't think any of the current crop of politicians we have would have the guts to face the political fall out that would come from a Vietnam sized anti-war movement. Of course we haven't had an anti-war movement in this country worthy of the name since Vietnam. Of course we haven't had a draft since Vietnam. I see a pattern forming...

As paradoxical as it sounds, a vote for the draft is a vote for peace! I know it sucks and I know it isn't fair, but if you want to have a better country sometimes you have to do things you don't want to, paying taxes, jury duty, military service. Its call doing your civic duty.

17. Leadership
As a young man, I could never fight for GW because I don't
respect him, I don't trust him, and I don't think he gives a damn. I respect and trust John Kerry. He earned my trust by volunteering in Vietnam twice. I think a great leader is essential for any war. George Washington and Eisenhower were not only politicians, they were great soldiers and as a result, soldiers gave their lives with the knowledge that they were being directed by the best for a greater cause that was necessary for the future of American beliefs and practices. I don't know how current soldiers in Iraq deal with GW's leadership because he's done nothing to convince me that war is worth fighting.
