My Fantasy re: Kerry & Nader
I realize Job 1 is getting this misadministration out of power. However, I worry that if they are not completely discredited, they will come back in four years.

If I were Kerry (this is the fantasy part), I would go to Ralph Nader and tell him that if I'm elected, I would appoint him to a position akin to Special Prosecutor (or perhaps Attorney General?), fund him, and have him investigate all the scandals (Enron, 2000 Election, WMD Intelligence, 911, Haliburton, Energy Commission, etc). Give him the budget and the subpeona power and tell him to go after it. I think Nader has enough of a public reputation for independence and integrity that his investigations would be difficult to discredit. I would also tell him that if the investigations ensnared any Democrats, that he should follow up on that as well.

On the flipside, my nightmare is that we will be told that we have to "move on" and that justice will not be served. These guys at the very least should have to answer to the public.

Do any of the long-time Kerry supporters envision him having any of this investigated should he take power (obviously without the Nader part)or will it just be too impolitic to investigate the previous administration?

Mike

3. Sounds more like a nightmare
Besides, according to the latest CBS News Poll, Kerry has a 8 point advantage over Bush, 49-41.

Kerry needs Nader like a hole in the head.

4. You missed the point entirely
The point isn't to help Kerry but to bury Bush.

5. John Edwards would
make an excellent Attorney General. I'd like to see him as v.p. but on the other hand I can't think of a better A.G.

6. I agree about Edwards
...but any investigation by him would be seen as "partisan". I was thinking that Nader (for all his faults) might be seen as independent of that taint.

7. If it's seen as "partisan"
that's just tough. Better than being seen as oppressive as Ashcroft's work.

9. It's not just "tough"
If part of the goal is to discredit this administration and expose their crimes, the investigation cannot look like bitter (or "angry" as we are currently labeled by the RNC) political revenge. Middle America wouldn't buy that (I don't think) and they need to or there is no point. To make sure these guys NEVER come back, the average voter has to understand what has happened under this administration.
