New media spin: "Job-loss" recovery.
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 11:54 AM by quilp
We had the "job-less" spin where the media told us "employment always lags a recovery" Well the "lag" has been too long for that lie to remain "operative". Now we have media "job-loss" spin. "Unemployment is largely the result of falling profits and rising technology".

Actually it is clear to every working stiff in the street that we have a "JOB-GONE" economy. Gone to Mexico, China, India, and Indoneasia.

That is why the Bush tax cuts are a disaster for us. Government works and investment programs ensure jobs being created here. The Bush tax cut for millionaires can be invested anywhere else in the world. And is! Our huge deficits and social security surpluses subsidise the export of our jobs. This should be explainable even to a "blue-collar" Republican!

1. That's certainly a big part of it...
but, dont' forget that today's corporate entities thrive on short term market gain. If they can show in one quarter that their operating expenses are significantly lowered compared to pending/completed contracts then the stock goes up, up, up.

In many cases (and in my experience) a good percentage of those deleted positions never get refilled in China, India, or anywhere else. They get filled with low wage temps, especially in manufacturing and IT, if filled at all.

Well said -

Some how our media does not want to notice this.

All I hear is "How is this economic problem Bush's fault"

and they never want to hear the answer - and they never will go on air or into print saying that it is Bush's fault because of reasons 1,2, and 3 - they need a Dem to say it is Bush's fault - they will drop the rest of what the Dem says - including his reasons for saying it was /is Bush's fault - and add 3 paragraphs of a PR handout by the GOP that says the Dem is an idiot - but which never refutes the logic of "why is it Bush's fault" beyond "Bush has little control of the economy - it is all cycles - and people like Bush".

Personally, I don't think we've had a recovery at all, but the powers that be had to declare one, or else they'd have to admit that we're in the 2nd Great Depression. Despite "conventional wisdom," jobs are a leading economic indicator, not a lagging one.

CBS News: "Statistically speaking, it's easier to get admitted into Harvard Univ. than to get a job in this economy." (8/1/03)
