Purposefully Mispronouncing Abu Ghraib?
Wondering whether the 3 mispronounciations of Abu Ghraib by Bush tonight were done on purpose.

Why?

To keep people (especially republicans)from remembering it.

I realize this seems a stretch, but you never know.

1. Yep. Remember the whole "simplest explanation" rule.
Not a tactic. Just a bonehead.

4. Aw gee shucks, I'm too much of a moron to be an evil mastermind
Actually I think his medicine was increased after his fall from the bicycle and it's short-circuiting the synapses in his brain, so they keep misfiring.

When bush is 80 (if he lives that long), he'll be just another stammering idiot in a rocking chair, trying to figure out who he is and what he's doing there.

6. "When bush is 80" - perhaps you mean "every night, every weekend".
And most of the time in between. Rocking chair or not.

5. I'm not sure of the correct pronunciation myself.
Most reporters pronounce the second word as one syllable, like "grabe" but Dana Priest, who is smart, pronounces the second word with 2 syllables like "gah-rabe" so maybe she's right and the other reporters are wrong.

7. Well, his daddy supposedly did the same thing...
Bush I used to pronounce Saddam as SADD-um (instead of suh-DAHM).

I recall hearing that Poppy did this on purpose, because the mispronunciation rendered Saddam's name into a word meaning young punk, or animal-boy, or some such thing.

Don't ask me for links -- it's just a piece of apocrypha I remember from the early 1990s. I hope someone can refresh my memory.

10. George H. W. Bush pronounced Saddam's name like
George H. W. Bush pronounced Saddam's name like "Sodom" to evoke the bible story of "Sodom and Gemorrah."

8. Everyone's attention has been riveted on the atrocities at Abu Ghraib
Everyone except for Bush, who has better things to do, like riding his bike. He doesn't know anything about it. He couldn't even be bothered to learn to pronounce it.
