why a military audience?
having just watched a banal, uninspiring, seemingly endless diatribe of one liners and patriotic rhetoric presented by the worlds most powerful man. It led me to believe I have every right to be more concerned for the worlds future than I have previously been..this 5 step plan to the future of Iraq and indeed the whole M/E has left me and no doubt many others discrediting what looks like another quickly cobbled together policy to cover another quickly cobbled together failed policy..the initial illegal invasion..on the basis of this plan Bush must resign forthwith and hand this mess to the UN to attempt to sort out..also if he was a politician of any credibility, why a military audience?..such an important issue and speech should have been open to scrutiny and questioning by critics and supporters alike..

my two cents worth..

It's been at least two years since he has appeared in public in a venue an average American could get into.

"offending" dissent, don't they? I wonder how much taxpayer
money has been spent keeping the pRez's vision "pure and
unoffended."

4. Why a militarty audience? Simple.
Edited on Mon May-24-04 08:22 PM by Jackpine Radical
They can be pre-selected and ORDERED to applaud at all the right times.

On edit: I was gonna fix "militarty" & then decided I liked the double entendre.

5. Good analysis that's my Take also
A military audience easier to maintain security and minimize what happened at the Rumsfelt hearings with the audience suddenly going nuts.

Plus the military jock sniffers love the flags and patriotism bullshit part of it.

14. One thing you must realize:
Edited on Mon May-24-04 08:29 PM by elperromagico
For a military man or woman to boo the Commander-in-Chief* would be tantamount to booing a commanding officer. In fact, it might be worse. It's simply not something you do. And so, a military audience is ideal for Bush. It's the one audience that is legally required to be receptive.

I wonder what they might do to them or their husbands. Did you also notice that he needs 5 Secret Srvice men to move across the stage in a military institution? HE IS PARANOIC and maybe with reason.

19. *s entire world is a vast Potemkin village
where everyone loves him and the only brown people are in adoring supportive roles. This takes a lot of $ and planning. Rove has to use military bases frequently to keep the expense and logistical complexity down.

22. here in Australia
such an important speech would be given either in front of a full sitting of parliament or on TV without a cheering audience..i found it strange that handshaking and backslapping would take place afterwards..this wasn't an election victory speech...

26. Have you ever seen the secret service standing in the aisles before??
A military audience, yet the secret service was more highly visible standing in the aisles than I've ever seen them before.

What were they protecting him from? Dissident wives? Non-applauders? They sure as hell couldn't protect him from the abuse of the English language.

Why were they standing in the aisles that visibly in front of a "friendly" audience?

30. why a military audience?
Well, nowhere is there a group of people with the same goals and ideology as Bushco. From assuring the continued conflagrations in third world nations, to treasury-busting military budgets, to the false praise Bush publicly gives 'the troops, to the total- if feigned- allegiance the troops give to Bush- it's a classic back-scratching operation and nothing- not even the screwing Bush is giving vets- will ever keep fascists from coming together in their mutual love of job security (for the troops) and vast fortunes (for Bushco).

36. maybe
it was a military audience because the speech was given at a military school. If you are asking why it was given at the school maybe he picked the place out of a hat.
