Where is Marcia Jeffries when you need her?

When Bush gives his big "speech" tomorrow, many will think about the often mentioned Star Trek episode "Patterns of Force" where the doped-up Nazi-esque "leader" is propped up in front of a microphone which conveniently covers his mouth, while an off-stage goon recites the text of the speech.

For me, I think of the character "Marcia Jeffries" (Patricia Neal) from the movie "A Face In The Crowd." By keeping the megalomaniacal "Lonesome Rhodes" microphone open during the closing credits of his television program, while he assumed the viewers would only see his mouth move as he ridiculed them, the whole country was exposed, for the first time, to the true nature of the man.

This was Andy Griffith's absolutely stunning film debut in 1957.
