Edited on Mon May-17-04 03:30 PM by wicket
Their front page now reads: "U.S. Confirms WMDs Found in Iraq" - http://www.foxnews.com/

Gee, it didn't take them long to start celebrating over the "field test". Just like they did over the "mobile labs"

:puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke:

ON EDIT: Their front page now reads "Chemical Agents Found in Iraq", gee that didn't take themn long to change it!!!!

1. picture is misleading as well
but if you read the (very small print) caption:

Red smoke billows from an area where a non-chemical improvised explosive device was found in Baghdad today.

Not one has been verified as WMD yet.

7. This really should be illegal. Rumsfeld himself said they weren't sure it
was sarin. This is a pathetic excuse for a news service.

10. Exactly
Nothing has been confirmed yet, it was a field test, and we all know how reliable those have been in the past :eyes:

Fox News is nothing but nationalistic propaganda.

11. This isn't news. It's conjecture.
It's been so LONG since we gained control Iraq that it's just as likely these weapons (which are perishable, BTW) were imported - from either terrorists or other pro-Iraq organizations or by the US.

Remember, Colin Polyp and * and Rumdrinker kept saying Iraq had tons of WMDs and went so far as to (glibly) say they knew WHERE they were hidden. Oops.

With everything else that's been documented in this 'war', I feel no need to trust any media organization. Nobody should. For anything. Not to mention those in charge. All credibility is GONE.

13. MY big fear about bringing Saddam down was
of course, that one of the big fears about
bringing Saddam down was that
IF he had WMD, they could be scattered to the
winds in the hands of God knows who.

If this is part of a larger cache, which even
David Kay doubts, then it is confirmation that one of the
least desirable results of the war has come to pass, the
distribution of formerly controlled weapons to
uncontrolled terrorists......

15. You can't give away what you don't have
Edited on Mon May-17-04 04:32 PM by Mountainman
How did Saddam scatter to the winds the weapons Bush claimed he wouldn't get rid of just before the war. Bush gave Saddam a few days, weeks, to disarm and he didn't do it so we went to war. Now just when did these weapons get scattered to the winds? Bush says he didn't disarm so it must have been during the rush to Baghdad, right? How could he scatter them to the winds undetected? Or if he did have them why didn't he use them rather than give them away? Got any answers for me?

If you take all the right wing talking points about the war and put them on paper they start to contidict themselves.

19.  Welcome to DU
:hi:

As Moutainman states the likelihood of Saddam scattering WMD to the wind as US forces rolled into Iraqi is low. Even if he did why wouldn't we have surveillance to make sure he didn't AND there would still be trace amounts (to my undrestanding) literally like a breadcrumb trail.

More likely, as even W&Co. are saying and is being buried in reports, these are very old weapons that simply had been forgotten or never really accounted for. There was almost no inventory system of weaponry in the Iraqi military and I hate to say it but in ours either. Sept.10th 2001 Rummy himself announced at a press conference that $2.1 TRILLION worth of items were unaccounted for in the US military. This of course was not mentioned much being the next day what it was and to give Rummy some credit, yikes, it was a long overdue beginning to an overhaul of the DoD's accounting and responsibility. There are currently 1,400 different accounting systems used in the Pentagon and the items that we know we bought but don't know where they are include:several M1A1 tanks and a salvage barge/ship (not too tiny-it didn't fall behind the copier).

20. No one believe this except for the dittoheads.
This missile shell needs to be tested by some international group. But even is Sarin is confirmed...so what? The credibility of this administration and the US is in the toilet. The Freepers and dittoheads already believe that WMDs were there because Bush said so. The people in the middle and the Dems know the administration was lying so this is a non-issue.

Where's my star?

21. Another WMD Lie...
Recently I heard a great discussion on if Saddam had WMDs why he didn't use them and where they could have been.

The main contention is that chemical weapons are only for offensive purposes...to lob into Israel, for example, and fails miserably as a defensive one. If anyone would have known it was Hussein, whose troops suffered several incidents in the Iran-Iraq war where mustard gas blew back on his troops, doing more damage to his side than the enemy.

It's not effective in close-quarter fighting, which is what happened during the invasion...and it's effects in a populated area in creating more congestion and confusion (which would hurt defenders) would make it even less likely to be used.

The thesis was Hussein pretended to have all sorts of advanced weapons to impress his friends and scare his enemies. It helped make him a player in the Arab world after leading his country to two disasterous wars and gave him credibility against the U.S. and sanctions in the Arab world.

It's still amazing how little we hear from Scott Ritter. Of course, on Faux, he's still a pedophile. To the real world, he's the man who knows the most about this topic and a real American hero!
