Is Bush and Rumfeld going to ride the storm out ?
Hoping that some Kobe or OJ story will happen and take the media and the people's attention away from their criminal and unAmerican acts? In the meantime, they will say everything bad about them is a lie and they will hunker down and wait for everything to blow over. Is that their strategy?

Or will the media keep exposing memos and stories that contradict everything they have been saying and leaves them no room to hide. Like cockroaches at midnight, when the lights come on, they will have no place to hide. Or will the media's attention span disappear and they go to another story and another plot?

2. Hard to tell. If it was up to Bush,
he would probably unload the piece of crap. He really doesn't need Rotten Rumsfeld. Look at all the chaos and messes that dude has created. He could pull in somebody off the street, and they would do a better job. Also, it bears repeating what Kerry said last week, "If you think this operation must be run by one man, our democracy is in serious trouble".

However, Bush has shown that he's a very rigid man. Not open to other options. He hasn't fired anybody yet, and his Coterie of Clows are serious idiots. I also have this feeling Reeking Rumsfeld will not go without a fight. I.e., he'll take others down with him, and this guy has a big mouth.

My take: he'll hang onto the old bastard and hope to weather the storm. They'll circle the wagons and start hiding and shooting. Probably for no particular reason, other than he does not like to admit defeat and to publicly acknowledge the guy was worthless.

3. Congress has the power, hence McCain, Warner, Levin
Looks like they've decided to go with McCain/Guiliani against Kerry/Richardson. Why not?

5. No
They've pushed it too far and too many times. People are really ANGRY. I can clearly see it here in Republican country. (Although there's still 'one little Bush/Cheney '04' banner hanging on a building somewhere near me that I'm waiting to see taken down in the night....I check every day. And one of these days (soon?) it's gonna be gone.)

6. Sy Hersh put the wooden stake into Rummy's chest ....
I understand no heartbeat was detected ...

THAT stake will not be removed ...

He will not be saved ....

In the end: his approval of the prison policies in place at Abu Ghraib will not be obscurable ....

Sy Hersh set the stake: ... The JAG Corp will, with great honor and moral certitude, drive it home ....

Rumsfeld, Cheney, and their titular numbskull fratboy leader have brought a dishonor to our nation: only their complete removal, along with those in congress who plied the citizens with lies and fear to achieve their ends ... ONLY the complete and utter removal from power of the GOP will restore the Nation's honor ....

Rummy gone by July, perhaps June, perhaps May ...

Bush and the GOP gone in November ...

7. I am amazed that the didn't plant any WMDs
I amazed that they seem so unable to stop their free fall from grace. They are imploding like a rotten orange.

My guess is that they are tired of the war and being in charge. They will take their marbles and go home and leave it to Kerry to fix.

8. The UK Observer is reporting same modus operandi at Guantanamo
According to UK citizens recently freed from Guantanamo, the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison were common at Guantanamo too. So there, what the New Yorker article is saying is true and mistreatment of prisoners is the rule, not the exception. It also cannot be the work of a few bad apples. This came from the top.
