Photographs of U.S. soldiers torturing and humiliating Iraqi prisoners have made their way around the world, and the people of Iraq and the world have the right to ask – how could this have happened?

These photographs and descriptions of torture are horrific and deplorable. These abuse allegations have further damaged the already tattered image of America around the globe.

But this is not the America we know.

The America we know stands for democracy, human rights, and equality for all. The America we know does not support torture and abuse, and is not represented by the abhorrent actions of a few.

As peace and justice loving Americans and global citizens, we extend a sincere and heartfelt apology to the people of Iraq. These deplorable acts of torture and violence by US soldiers in Iraq can not be condoned. Sign this petition to send your apology to the People of Iraq. Let them know that those few men and women in Iraq do not represent the will of the majority of the American people.
