This is a poll question on CNN, and I think we all know the answer. But maybe the real question should be, "What are the U.S. goals in Iraq?" www.cnn.com
3. This is one that I can see both ends of the spectrum agreeing on.
Obviously we don't think it ("it" being a horrendous foreign policy blunder) was worth the enormous cost--or any cost, for that matter.
Bush apologists also don't think its worth the cost, in the sense of "WHY R WE SPENDING $$$ TO GIV FREEDUM TO THOSE TERRIST IRAKI BASTERDS WHOO WANT TO KIL US!!!!"
While we've all heard about WMDs in Iraq, the rare news items point to a hidden agenda. Apparently the Bush-Saudi dynastic lovefest is kaput. It hit the rocks shortly after 9/11. While that's not mainstream info it has been indirectly alluded to by articles that have appeared off and on since shortly after 9/11.
Moderates urging reform in Saudi Arabia have taken public stands and were jailed. Saudis have also coerced radical clerics to retract their. previous exhortations of violence. There's some odd stuff going on in Saudi Arabia that can be interpreted several ways. The Saudis seem to be torn between persuading the American public that it regrets 9/11 and has supported the current effort in Iraq and telling us to go to hell.
I suspect there's some interesting diplomatic maneuvers happening. There seems to be a lot more pressure being applied to the Muslim world that we're being told. The recent sanctions on Syria are an example of something that finally emerged although it was expected.
I wouldn't necessarily say we're being lied to, but there's indications of a lot more happening than Bush has fessed up.
