JonBenet's dad to campaign for seat in Michigan House

The father of slain child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey is running for a seat in Michigan's Legislature.

John Ramsey, who has lived for years under a cloud of suspicion in the death of his daughter, told USA TODAY he is running for the Michigan House of Representatives because his family wants to put its notoriety to work for the public good.

"We've been talking for a number of years about what we are supposed to do with this unique platform we've been given," he said in an interview Monday. "I thought this is how I could really make a difference."

<snip>

Ramsey, a Republican, is not the first to use family tragedy as a springboard. U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., ran for Congress after her husband, Dennis, was killed by a gunman on the Long Island Rail Road in 1993. John Walsh, host of the Fox TV show America's Most Wanted, became active in missing-children cases after the slaying of his son, Adam, in 1981.

9. what a surprise
You get your chance to scour a crime scene before the police can.

The amount of ransom money is the very same amount of your bonus.

Yep, he's clean.

4. Nope, the case is still open
and the killer hasn't been caught - unfortunately. :(

So, I have to assume the Ramseys are still suspects.

3. Go ahead... let him get into politics....
The truth about his past will be brought to light like no Colorado court/police department could ever do. Yep, just let him get into politics. Hah!

13. Yeah, that was kind of sickening
Pre-emptively comparing his situation to Carolyn McCarthy?? :wtf:
I think it's gross that he's willing to cash in on the kind of name recognition he has.

6. I guess he's running on the "No child left behind" platform . . .
No one has been cleared because the killer has not been found . . .

12. Oooookaaayyyy.....
....if Mr. Ramsey does run, what is the potential entertainment value of that race, particularly to us DU'ers? I can't imagine that he wouldn't get barraged with a shitload of media scrutiny.
