Is torture acceptable now?
When bush stood next to Rummy today and said what a wonderful job he has done is like spitting in the eye of the Arab world. But when he said, "this government is giving them (the American troops) every means of protecting themselves and every means necessary to gain victory," doesn't that sound like he's condoning the torture that's been going on?

I have also read LTTE and heard people calling in to NPR and other talk radio programs saying that if the torture saves just one American, life then it's worth it.

Is this the way most of America feels today? Has the Geneva Convention become obsolete now that we are the only super power left in the world? Who will hold the U.S. accountable when we commit crimes against humanity?

1. This is a systematic attempt to gain majority approval
to dispense with the Geneva Convention and any laws or rules regarding how Dumbass* conducts his endless war.

I have never been so ashamed to be a citizen of this country
Never.

Of course the irony of this is that the effect of the torture photos is to paint a nice big target on the back of every American who ventures into the Arab world - military or civilian.

Torturing Iraqi prisoners will be directly responsible deaths to come.

4. Dumb shit
The whole premise of the Geneva Convention is to protect each other against torture by either side. We torture theirs, they will torture ours.

Thanks Bush, yet another way to turn soldiers in mincemeat. They are so friggin expendable - its disgusting - and that puke didn't even serve his commitment. :grr:

5. The idiots in charge have forgotten the downside of relying on torture
First, you never, ever can torture reliable information out of a victim. They will tell you whatever you want to hear, just to get the pain to stop.

Second, you are opening up every single American, soldier or civilian, to being tortured in return.

6. Much to my dismay and shock
50% of American agree with bush and his policies which include the widespread use of torture and humiliation in the armed forces.

7. The mentality that is so disgusting
I have heard it here in my city. I have heard it in opinion columns and before classes. Nobody says it out loud, but MANY people now think brown skinned non-Christians deserve to be tortured. The word "terrorist" has become hackneyed and repurposed as terra-ist; anyone who believes differently is a terra-ist. Unfortunately, "terra-ist" especially includes about all muslims and other middle easterners, and anyone that looks like they might be from the middle east. This turns my stomach.

8. It must be.
I mean, HOW much William Hung were we subjected to?

It's not. but I think we now live in a culture where life is cheap, (once the cords' cut and it's breathing on its own).

People who don't speak English aren't really people. And besides, these aren't people, they're "insurgents".

What a world. I feel that this is what you get when people reject Science and embrace a "My God's bigger than YOUR God, and He says 'All your Base Belong me'..." ideology.

9. The lawyer for a woman charged -
"I think it was a lawful order."

That's his defense.

Of course, he also claims that all the people in the prison were terrorists. Good lawyer, that... :eyes:.

11. they are doing their best to make it acceptable to Americans
as a method.

It is absolutely barbaric and accomplishes nothing at all.

How can it?

It is an absolute stupid, sadistic and moronic thing to do.

Who would not say anything, lie and lie, in order to stop the torture?

and certainly, in all of this torture of the Iraqi prisoners, we have NOT garnered a thing at all.
