Kate O'Beirne screed/prep for her Capitol Gang rant

IT'S ALL CONGRESS' FAULT!!!

Kate’s Take: Congressional Abuse
By Kate O'Beirne

The most recent images of abuse concerning Iraqi detainees will inevitably fuel the anti-Americanism that endangers American lives — not at the hands of sadistic young misfits but at the hands of our elected representatives.

Members of Congress elbowing their way into camera range to question, in the absence of any evidence whatsoever, whether abuses were widespread and senior commanders were implicated and accusing the military of engaging in some cover-up are abusing the Abu Ghraib scandal and recklessly putting our troops at risk. Liberal Democrats are predictably far happier wallowing in the depravity of a handful of American troops in the service of a misbegotten mission than they are celebrating the self-sacrifice, courage, and restraint of the tens of thousands.

Republicans are redundantly declaring their disgust, their disappointment, and their dismay because there is a big story going on and they can't stand not being part of it. Just this once, could this destructive development not have been about them? The public's revulsion is clear and their president has clearly expressed it.

4. I don't think so
Kate belongs to the class that doesn't go to war, plus she's an anti-feminist who's against women in the military. Hell, even the men of that ilk (think Cheney) wouldn't serve in wars they "supported."

8. When are these people going to realize
that when you invade and occupy a country on the flimsiest of evidence and do so, at least in part, to liberate oppressed people from an evil, tortuous dictator, your actions MUST be beyond reproach? The standards have to be, and should be, higher for us. And we must live up to them. No more of these comparisons with what Saddam would have done. That's ridiculous in the extreme and really pisses me off. End of rant.
