I don't know why but South Carolina's gas prices usually seem to be a little cheaper than the rest of the country. Probably because our state is run by Repugs and they don't require any anti-pollution laws!

|
Why don't people stop whining about fuel costs, and elect someone who is serious about developing alternative fuels? In the meantime, drive a fuel efficient car. If you already do, shout for joy as people eliminate unnecessary road trips, the air gets cleaner, and someone decides to live closer to work or school, instead of bulldozing another piece of the rural landscape.

|
At relatively low prices there is little incentive for people to conserve. I want the gas prices to get to $2.50-$3.00 per gallon. Then maybe people will give a crap about developing alternative and renewable sources of energy. Then I will laugh at the fools who bought the gas guzzlers. I am hateful SOB aren't I?

Or are you totally unaware that the price of everything else goes up when gas does? (HINT: Trucks and trains run on diesel, and corporations will raise prices before their CEO's lose one dime of their 8 figure salaries.)
Guess who takes the worst hit from this: The people least able to afford it. Hey, great for all the liberal celebrities who bought a Prius, but the unemployed or underemployed don't have that option. And the rich continue to buy the Hummers, write it off on their taxes, and then they have 85,000 to spend on gas.
The only way to be serious about alternative energy is to get the fucking oil companies out of the government.

prices. I also understand something of human motivation. Americans are not going to wake up about fossil fuels until we have to pay much more at the pump. Yes it will be disproportionately difficult for the poor. Every bad thing that happens in the country falls most heavily on the poor.
How do you propose we get our oil companies out of government? Do you really think people give a crap as long as they can affort their gasoline?
Please leave off the personal insults. I didn't attack you.

that cost $17 to fill up not two years ago. Absolutely ridiculous.
I just finished talking to a friend about the high prices consumers are being hit with. There's milk going to $4 a gallon--and then there all of the other expenses that have somehow become mainstream. Cable, internet, cell phones...everybody's paying these extra bills and the taxes (at least in Chicago) on cell phones and even regular phones are astronomical.
Some financial analyst said a few months ago the gov't is reporting inflation as being within the normal range based on their "bread basket" of goods which don't reflect price increases. I think they're fudging the numbers. First of all, today's "bread basket" is not what it used to be and they are not taking that into account.
