Great news for WMD enthusiasts worldwide: the UK's new intelligence/security chief is to be John Scarlett, the man who masterminded Iraq War legitimacy via "proof" of Saddam's WMDs:

The chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee John Scarlett is to be the next chief of MI6, Downing Street said.

Mr Scarlett was the first JIC chairman to be widely known after he gave evidence to the Hutton inquiry into the death of weapons expert Dr David Kelly.

He was in charge of drawing up the government dossier on Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction.

The Tories attacked the appointment as "inappropriate" and it was branded "highly controversial" by the Lib Dems.
