Just learned this bit of news from
Talking Points Memo. So, let me get this straight... the guy they pick to straighten out the PR, as well as the Iraqi Prison System, just happens to be the former Commanding Officer of Guantanamo Bay?!? Well,
that's just a little stroke of genius, isn't it?
MG Miller is the guy who received much, much news coverage today when he became the first officer in uniform to apologize to the Iraqi people for the atrocities committed at Abu Ghraib.
From Josh Marshall; that last paragraph is pretty intriguing:
"MG Miller" is Maj. Gen. Geoffrey D. Miller, until recently the commanding officer of the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was just recently placed in command the US prison system in Iraq.
In August and September of last year Miller went to Iraq to study and report on the prison facilities the US military was running in the country and how they were being utilized for generating intelligence by means of interrogations. He made his report in October.
