or has been done in our name
Then we have to confront those who are evil.
Every society has them, and ... evil only flourishes where men and women of consience do nothing
Which reminds me, time to write that letter to the paper

... come, we go drink heavily and contemplate how to create a better world. Fred Harris said, in his 1980 campaign for president, that what this country needed was a reformed drunk running it. I think he was wrong on that point, given that we've had almost four years of the dry drunk in office....

Only sport damaging brains these days seems to be Texas football and Texas politics. *smile*
There aren't any mind-altering drugs which leave holes in the brain--but, mad cow disease, kuru, does precisely that. One day, it will be known as McDonald's Disease.... (!)
We may be an angry country, but that's environmental--too many chlorinated benzene rings being ingested here, too many indecent attacks on our bodies and our brains for the sake of corporate profit. At least some of the world isn't entirely that way--the sensible part of the civilized world may be our salvation, if we have the courage to listen and admit our mistakes.
Cheers.

... won't disagree that it's bad shit. But, I don't find compelling evidence in the literature that meth causes "holes in the brain."
However, the incidence of some neuronal damage is fairly high in people who have been infected with HIV and continue meth use. Quite a few studies support this phenomenon.
There are also many studies indicating that methamphetamines drastically suppress the production of the neurotransmitter dopamine, and yet, the patients in those studies did not exhibit Parkinsonian symptoms, as might have been expected. The upshot of those studies seems to be that the dopamine suppression might be a contributing factor in the addictiveness of the drug.
Holes in the brain, however, seem to be restricted to the action of encephalitic viruses, CJS, prions related to kuru related diseases and Alzheimer's Disease.
Could be wrong--just don't see any definitive studies showing what you suggest.
Cheers.
