| Strange Fruit - from the Hangings in the South to Torture in Iraq |
|
Edited on Thu May-06-04 01:11 AM by TruthIsAll
Originally performed by Billie Holiday, a blues classic about black hangings in the South. I rewrote a few of the lyrics for Iraq
Strange Fruit
Iraqi prisons bear a strange fruit, Blood on the floor and blood on the roof Bodies entwined in the desert heat, Strange fruit growing in retreat
Horrible scene of imperialist rout, The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth, Scent of palm trees, sweet and fresh, Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, For the sand to gather, for the wind to suck, For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop, Here is a strange and bitter cry

| 3. No, not at all. This is an old southern blues of black hangings.. |
|
I modified it slightly to reflect the horrors of Iraq.
