Mother of all hypocrises
I was driving home this evening, listening to NPR (no AAR in town), and nearly burst a vessel when I heard the following Chimp audio clip from today's interview with the Arabic Alhurra TV network.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/05/20040505-5.html

Transcript of * "interview" with Alhurra Television

*: We're an open society. We're a society that is willing to investigate, fully investigate in this case, what took place in that prison.

*: We have nothing to hide. We believe in transparency, because we're a free society. That's what free societies do. They -- if there's a problem, they address those problems in a forthright, up-front manner.

Will *any* news outlet have the cojones to eviscerate this collosal hypocrite on these statements? This administration has drawn a Fecal Curtain around itself since day one, and has exceeded even Nixonian benchmarks relative to secrecy.

Mother of freaking dog!

1. what a fucking idiot!!! or maybe not...
If he thinks people in the Arab world are going to actually believe this, he is clueless. He really has NO idea how these words are going to sound to that audience. They know it's bullshit.

But on the other hand, maybe the REAL audience is swing voters in the US. That would make sense, because they are silly enough to actually believe this tripe.

4. I actually screamed out loud
And kinda surprised myself in doing so. NPR is never overtly partisan but gotta believe they included these two quotes because of their glaring contrast with * Admin practices. (the bloody Supreme Court is still deliberating on the Cheney energy task force case, for the love of dog!)

7. Wow. Yeah, NPR is way left-wing, eh?
Good response (turning it off). Glad you didn't take the more drastic action of crashing the car into an embankment.

I'm glad to have AAR, nowadays; even if only at my computer.

9. I screamed out loud, too
when I heard that the majority of the prisoners live out of doors in a tent city named for the fire chief that was killed 9/11.

This is fucking Iraq!! They still didn't have anything to do with 9/11!!

I'm sick of this stupid shit they do and think people won't notice. Well, the people that buy their bullshit probably buy into this, too.

10. "dictator" comments were from the Al Arabiya interview
That was from the Al Arabiya interview. And, no, the interviewer didn't directly ask * about dictatorship, * just started spewing a bunch of propaganda b-s on what he thinks a dictator would NOT be doing in an attempt to contrast with the superficial steps the US has taken since the lid was blown off the abuse issue. (though anyone who's lived through a dictatorship would know he's full o' feces).

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/05/20040505-2.html

Q: After these pictures came out, some people in the area started talking about another alleged abuse. Could you tell us about what's being done to prevent this from happening and just to improve the situation?

THE pRESIDENT: Absolutely. I have told our Secretary of Defense, and I have instructed him to tell everybody else in the military, I want to know the full extent of the operations in Iraq, the prison operations. We want to make sure that if there is a systemic problem -- in other words, if there's a problem system-wide -- that we stop the practices.

Again, it's very important for people, your listeners, to understand, in our country that when an issue is brought to our attention on this magnitude, we act -- and we act in a way where leaders are willing to discuss it with the media. And we act in a way where, you know, our Congress asks pointed questions to the leadership. In other words, people want to know the truth. That stands in contrast to dictatorships. A dictator wouldn't be answering questions about this. A dictator wouldn't be saying that the system will be investigated and the world will see the results of the investigation. A dictator wouldn't admit reforms needed to be done.

And so the people in the Middle East must understand that this was horrible. But we're dealing with it in a way that will bring confidence to not only our citizens, which is very important, but confidence to people of the world that this situation will be rectified and justice will be done.

It *DOES* appear, thankfully, that * managed to avoid using his new favorite descriptor of "brown-skinned people" during both the interviews. Phew! WW3 averted for a few more hours.

really truly that is what brought up the brown skin in my mind. at a part in his answer i felt he was about to say it and stopped himself. your comment had me in laughter, thanks.

ah, well like i said i wasnt listening. lol. thanks for clearing that up for me. i will be more careful in the future. but does kinda say how he always has to put out the truth, being that he is a dictator certainly in iraq and close in u.s.

thanks

18. George Soros had a good quote related to this...
... let me find it...

ah, here it is...

http://www.smirkingchimp.com/article.php?sid=14532
From a speech delivered Jan. 12, 2004 by George Soros at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. The event served as the official release of his book, "The Bubble of American Supremacy."

    ...

If we reelect Bush in 2004 we endorse the Bush doctrine and we will have to live with the consequences. We shall be regarded with widespread hostility and terrorists will be able to count on many sympathizers around the world. We are liable to be trapped in a vicious circle of violence, ... 2004 is not an ordinary election; it is a referendum on the Bush doctrine. The future of the world hangs in the balance.

"in my country, people are innocent until proven guilty" (referring to the accused soldiers). HA! I imagine the folks at Guantanamo are busting a stitch on that one!
