To those who are not outraged by the prisoner abuse....
The feedback from many forums is knocking me for a loop. Comments include concern that the photos were not kept secret by CBS, as well as accusations (this is a real quote) that "criticisms of the actions by our troops are inflamatory and personal attacks and unfair assaults on our troops while we are at war."

What so many don't understand is that these photos are not of isolated incidents. They are going to have devastating consequences for any US hostages now and in the future. There are two Americanhostages being held in Iraq right now. I worry very greatly about how they will be treated. Revenge is a cultural MUST in the Moslem world.

Here's a warning to future US hostages. ALL BETS ARE OFF....

1. I know, I feel like I've entered
freepland or CUntville whenever I read posts and threads like that. And we're so hypocritical, while we're justifiably outraged at the treatment of our civilians in Fallujah, we fail to see the horror in the same treatment our soldiers are giving Iraqi prisoners and in our name as a country, too.

2. I know some people who are outraged
Outraged that these pictures were leaked to the media. I have counted 2 people on the Hannity forums that say that the photos are fake and just some anti-American leftist conspiracy.

Fortunately most of the people at Hannity and Free Republic are just as outraged as us.

I feel sorry for any U.S. soldier that is captured. This is even more proof that Iraq is just one big mess.

8. I was relieved to see that

and most understood the danger it poses to our troops. I am relieved to see more and more conservatives saying "Bring them home NOW".

For this guy:

Pfc Keith "Matthew" Maupin

And for this guy:

Thomas Hamill, American hostage in Iraq

In the past, hostages were sometimes unharmed by their captors. In the past, there were deals and hostages survived. The past, however, is over.

Foreign hostages released in Iraq
Thursday, 22 April, 2004

Three more foreign hostages have been released by their captors in Iraq, following a spate of kidnappings in recent weeks.
One of them was an Israeli Arab abducted two weeks ago and accused of spying for Israel.

Switzerland says a married Swiss couple were freed in southern Iraq, after being held for 48 hours.

<snip>

About 50 foreigners have been abducted in Iraq in the last month.

One Italian hostage was killed by his captors, and a Danish national was found dead a day after he was seized, but most of the others have been released unharmed.

3. Your point is what breaks my heart about this event.
It won't be long before revenge is exacted and splashed across the Internet. And worse - we just lost ANY allies we might have had in the Mideast outside of Israel. We just played into the terrorist hands and gave every terrorist organization the best recruiting gift they could have gotten. They only way this could have been worse is if we had pictures of hooded Iraqis screwing pigs ... We will pay dearly for this. I fear for our serviceman and their families. This is horrible.

4. The toothpaste is out
of the tube. The government had these photos since at least December. It's possible that the photos and abuses are responsible for the uprising in Iraq since the first of April. Just because we are just now finding out about them doesn't mean the Iraqi's are.

7. damn right

The Iraqis know much more than we do. It's probably been continuing since. Shrub is buying his own private army to do this. Look up Blackwater USA for instance.

9. They're not just finding out. But they found out about the women first
and we are still not talking about that. There were reports, and I had quoted at least one here, that women released from that prison were sent out half naked. This is what I found in Iraqi blogs as to the real story behind the uprising and not that effing spin about Sadr's newspaper being closed down.

I couldn't find my source but Chookie pointed this one out.

<snip>

The real facts are that there is report after report of US abuses; on the internet, in the back pages of our newspapers, in personal accounts that with a little luck will now make their way to mainstream press. This is not an isolated few - this is business as usual for the US military and their collaborating band of thugs in Iraq. Is it any wonder that bodies of US soldiers who fall into Iraqi hands are mutilated and displayed?

The pictures of US soldiers dishonoring Iraqi detainees came as no surprise to JUS (Jihad Unspun). We have been reporting alleged abuses since shortly after the fall of Baghdad. We received several reports over the past months of US soldiers raping Iraqi woman, only to find these photos posted to US porn sites. While these photos and reports were put down to "loose" Iraqi women (which shows a fundamental understanding of Iraq's religion and culture) we discovered later that those who were detained, some at Abu Ghraib prison, who refused to provide US officials with intelligence where given a prod to garner "cooperation" by rounding up the female relatives, forcing then into sexual acts that were filmed and then shown to their husbands, fathers and brothers and to the general public through porn sites. Now the CBS 60 Minutes II report legitimizes the incidents we have been reporting all along.

The Arab world is outrage. The Muslim Ummah is outraged. Iraqis are outraged and so are people of conscience everywhere. I pity the next soldiers that fall into Resistance hands. And contrary to its belief - America can be defeated and most likely will be defeated and dangled at the end of its own pathetic rope for all the world to see.

5. Sad Days Ahead for All Americans...
If we act like animals, then we can expect to be treated as animals.

And to think that America for the near future is FUBAR because of the failures of ONE VILE AMERICAN MAN...
