Total tinfoil thought re porn and torture
Could Ashcroft have been trying to cack down on porn because the govt knew the torture pics would be reeased soon, and he was hoping to have them declared "pornographic" so he could ake action against anyone disseminating them?

2. Makes sense to me
...but we know how Asscrock is outraged by the sight of a female breast. I think Janet Jackson's foulup pushed him over the edge on that. Statues were easier to conceal, they don't move from behind the curtains.

More puzzling, though, is that cow Heather Wilson, who shook with rage and with tears in her piggy eyes over the indecency of another woman's body being revealed accidently. You'd think Jackson was bin Laden in drag. I would strongly suspect this militarist bitch's overreaction WAS caused more by seeing some of these pictures that had been shopped to porno sites on the web than it was having Jackson humiliated by having a tit pop out unexpectedly.

In any case, something about all this doesn't smell quite right.

3. what I think Asscroft is up to..
is using his anti-porn crusade to take down people like Howard Stern and Larry Flynt, and the independant smaller 'porn' companies, so that all that is left is the corporate-approved Viacom Spice channel type stuff. Kind of like a media ownership rule for porn. Thus the media fat-cats get a monopoly on people's porn purchases, and anti-Bush free speech people get taken down the long road and fined into bankrupcy

4. I agree
It's about cutting out the small businesses in favor of the huge corporations that support bush. Also, about impressing the fundie base how they are cleaning up America.

7. This Heather Wilson?

It's getting tough to keep up with all the wingnuts out there.

You're right though, that the timing is bizarre. The porn crackdown was announced right around the time the asshole was due to testify to the 9/11 Commission, and is as far from terrorism related stuff as you can get. Did he think this would make him look better at the hearings? Did he plan this all crackdown all along, and it was just coincidental?

Perhaps the answer is that he is just not very bright.

No. The definition of obscenity considers important social purpose, and this is an important news story.

Ashcroft spending millions against porn has nothing to do with Iraq.
