Ouch: "Former Democratic Nominee" Howard Dean: MSNBC (AP)
Actual headline:

Could Dr. Dean be the next Dr. Phil?
The former Democratic nominee may have his own talk show

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4873860/

About the talkshow, of course, something should be said. I suppose it might be interesting, although I don't really have much interest in Howard Dean as a daytime Dr.Phil-style talk show host. I want to see him on Crossfire or doing a political talk show.

1. Nominee is totally the wrong term, he was a candidate
never the nominee. Heck Kerry isn't even the nominee yet.

2. Maybe he can start the show with a scream!
I haven't changed my mind about Dean. He was my first pick and I think he's had an enormous impact on this election. A talk show would be great, IMO.

5. Exactly.
Paul's saying nice stuff about Dean now after he's out of the race. He was crapping in his drawers back when it looked like Dean might win the nomination. He couldn't trash Dean enough then.

13. Oh yeah...those dark days in the campaign
when the only coverage poor Dr. Dean could get was only the covers of Time, Newsweek, US World & News Report, etc.

6. Paul Begala must think people have forgotten
his trashing of Dean along with Carville. I saw his lips moving today and thought what a hypocrite but then I guess it's all performance for the camera and the dough that come with it. Soul selling to the highest bidder is a big thing with some people.

12. I haven't forgotten
I'm 100% behind Kerry. I'm 100% behind electing every Dem I can. I've given money to both Kerry AND the party and I'm working my butt off. But every bloody time I contribute I tell 'em that I do it because of Dean. In fact, I won't donate online or over the phone. I send a check, and that check is accompanied by a letter telling 'em WHY I'm doing in. And in the memo field on my checks I write "because of Howard Dean." Carville, in particular, trashed Dean, and, no, I won't forget. Maybe they don't give a fried fart, cuz they are still getting my money. Maybe next time out, if they do it again to another candidate like Dean, I won't give.

As a former Dean supporter, I've proved in a thousand ways that I am soooo over it. But that doesn't mean I don't remember. And the things that Dean "wanted to know" at the California Dem convention are still the same things that I "want to know" about the Dems.

9. Begala
Glad you said it before I had to...Begala, Carville, Clinton, MacAulliffe all worked together to move Kerry from 7% in the polls pre-Iowa, to first place, in about two weeks. Trashing and demeaning Dean was part of that effort, and the media were happy to help them out.

Kerry is a terrible campaigner. While I will vote for him and try to convince others to, if I had to I couldn't give you a single principle that he stands for that he will not waffle on or apologize for. He makes Gore look like a political genius by comparison. If those 4 had joined Gore and supported Dean, Bush would be seriously worried about the '04 election and the possible embarassment of losing by 20% points. Even Karl Rove has admitted (in Woodward's book) that he was relieved that Dean was out of the race and he could run Georgie against Kerry.

7. Do a search here, there are several on this already.
Can't you see what they are doing? They are trying to use associative words to put him down.

A non-political show can be very effective and make a lot of points if done properly. He has been offered a cable news spot, but apparently turned it down so far.

It is doable, but they will try to use words to define him. Look what they are doing to Kerry? It is ridiculous.

10. what the heck? I have lots of admiration for Dean
but "former NOMINEE"??? former Governor, yes. One time front runner (before the primaries) in the democratic primaries, yes. "Nominee"???

So inaccurate that it forces even one who does not see conspiracies behind every corner to wonder... is the writer (0r staffer who puts on the titles) just really stupid... or is there something else going on - and if so...what?

11. He does not refer to himself that way, the reporter does.
It is silly, and it is meant to put him down.

15. A two-fer
a putdown of Dean... and a building up of the appearance of continued infighting and problems with Kerry - to keep an appearance of the dems looking disorganized and week?
