Boston DUers: Don't let Sinclair overshadow J. Severin - hate radio artist
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 08:30 PM by arendt
Boston Globe Op-Ed
Severin fails to own up to his words
By Scot Lehigh  |  April 30, 2004

After a caller suggested that the United States should befriend Muslims who live in this country, (WTKK radio talkmeister Jay) Severin noted that he had an alternative viewpoint: They should be killed....

"It is not what I said," Severin insisted. As the man challenged him to replay the controversial remark, the host could be heard telling his producers to turn the caller down. Shortly thereafter, Severin noted: "As to the matter of whether I said, `Let's kill all the Muslims' or `Kill all the Muslims,' those words were never uttered by me."...

Here's what Severin did say: "I have an alternative viewpoint. It's slightly different than yours. You think we should befriend them. I think we should kill them."

Let me slip into Jay's didactic mode. That, best and brightest, is what's known as a distinction without a difference. The words may vary slightly, but the sentiment is the same.

Hey Boston DUers-

Don't let the Sinclair flap distract you from getting this bum off the air.
Can you imagine if he said let's kill em all in regard to someone the
RW assholes like? He'd be in Gitmo by now.

Let's see, the FBI interrogates children who draw pictures against the
war, but a radio talk show host can advocate murder and its all a
misunderstanding.

I am sick of these thugs getting away with this by claiming they were
misunderstood or just jokiing or misquoted. What humbug!

Fire Jay Severin.

2. Not sure. Oregon? Washington (state)? In the past three days.
Some kid turned a drawing in to his teacher, not sure how the
FBI got involved.

I could troll through some news sites if you want.

4. Washington. Secret Service.
Some kid drew horns on Bush, so she called the Secret Service and they came out and worked him over a bit.

Secret Service Investigates Teen's Art Project Depicting Bush As Devil

POSTED: 10:30 am EDT April 26, 2004
UPDATED: 10:43 am EDT April 26, 2004

PROSSER, Wash. -- One drawing showed President Bush's head on a stick. Another depicted Bush as a devil launching a missile.

The drawings by a 15-year-old boy in Prosser, Washington, were enough to prompt some questions from the Secret Service.

Agents questioned the teen after being called by police. The boy's art teacher told school officials about the drawings, and they called police.

The boy was not arrested but the school district has taken disciplinary action.

Yes, let's scare children who tell the truth about the bum in the White
House. That's how you run a democracy.

3. I was really amazed to read this article this morning.
Scot Lehigh is not usually the most liberal Globe columnist. Severin really hit a nerve and he should be at least disciplined by the broadcaster. But then again....I guess it depends on the broadcaster.
At least he didn't speak against the (p)resident! Now that would have been unforgivable...right Howard?

6. Thanks for the background on Lehigh
Anyone who thinks the Globe is liberal is nuts.

I personally would like to dish out to Jeff Jacoby
the same garbage he spews constantly against
anyone who isn't a Bush-lover.

Lehigh is just the junior right wing hit man, then.
Thanks. I will continue to pick the paper up with
tongs, when I find a discarded copy in a coffee
shop.

7. most unfortunately. . .
I live within the range of Severin's toxic signal. Periodically when NPR is dragging and I need to drive aggresively (cause he bothers me so), I tune in for a minute or two. I caught his half hearted non apology on Monday.

But he's always characteristically so full of himself. "The best and brightest" my ass. He got into Radcliff in the 70's when they were going co-ed so they were hard up for males. He's always bragging about his alleged sexual prowess. He prides himself as being a Libertarian. I question that.

But the worst was when earlier in the week, he was observing the bombing of Fallujah and he said he was getting "sexually aroused." Ughhhhhhhh.

He's a sicko and hardly worth all the publicity he's getting.

9. I wish I could get Gary LaPierre off the air
Smirky "news anchor" who does conservative commentary on the radio every afternoon then reports the news the next morning as if we are to believe in his impartiality.

11. Another nauseatingly smug thug
I hate WBZ and their "Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, wave the
flag, suck up to W" editorial policy. I only listen for the traffic
report, and that sucks too. But at least they get it on the air
when they say they do, on the 3's - so I never have to listen
to more than 30 seconds of their lame-o announcers.

Isn't Paul Harvey dead yet? He was on the radio 50 years
ago, literally, I swear. Same condescending tone, same
ridiculous Walter Winchell style. He was dull and right
wing then, and he is even duller these days.

12. And now you know...
theeeee REST of the story!

I love how Harvey pronounces plurals. "And there...they found...weapon-ZAH. But what they didn't know was that one small child, yes, one small child....saying his prayer-ZAH...." I could vomit.
