What happened outside a Sinclair-owned station
here in Columbus. I heard that there was going to be a protest outside of WSYX-6 tonite at 5:00. They were going to read the names of the fallen. When I drove passed I saw about 2 dozen people standing and chanting, with police cruisers blocking the entrance and exit of the station's parking lot. I parked about 2 blocks away and when I got close to the station a group of people (very angry) said "The cops are making us move our cars." I continued walking until I was stopped by a cop who said "Are you here to protest?" I said "Yes." He said "You're not allowed." I looked increduously at him and not knowing what to say or do-turned and walked back to my car. I'm still shaking. I understand fear and anger better than I ever have.

1. Waiting for the Reichstag fire...
At what point in time will GW finally just suspend elections and declare martial law?

5. Is the protest still there?
Go back and join in. If he bothers you again, get his name and badge number.

if it's too late, go down to the police station and file a complaint. He violated your constitutional right to assemble.

6. Were you on their property?

You can't block the entrance or exit, or go onto their property in most states.

Do you need a permit there to protest/assemble?

Don't blame the cops, they're just doing their job.

..."support the Troops" rallies? "Support the President" rallies?

Just asking.

10. Everyone was on the sidewalk
and it was the police cruisers who were blocking the entrances and exits. I don't know if you have to have a permit to protest here or not.

11. Were you on the sidewalk?

If so, that's considered public property. You can be arrested for trespassing if you're on the station's property, but the sidewalk & street are OK in most places.

(oops. posted at same time as above!)

9. How about asking "Why not" so you can find out who is behind
the nazi tactic.

How about asking him what happened to the first amendment "freedom of
Speech"?

How about telling him your group is going to sue the police department
for violating your civil rights and then calling the ACLU ?

13. I know
It was such a jaw-dropping moment. He kind of smiled at me when he said it-I have no idea whether it was a sympathetic smile-or a smirk. The other people I ran into who were going back to move their cars out of the parking lot as to not get towed away were intimidated as well-and they weren't alone. Am I proud of not saying anything-no.

12. I would have said "No, I am not here to protest."
After all, reading the names of war dead is not in itself a "protest"!
