Howard Dean preps for own talk show.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1943&u=/variety/20040429/va_mi/dean_preps_for_talkshow_04_292004_1&printer=1

I had heard this was happening. I think he turned down a cable news talk show already.

Interesting format:
SNIP..."Dean has flirted with TV before, and insiders said the ex-Vermont governor received at least one substantial offer to host his own talkshow for a cable news net.

But Dean seems interested in going in a completely different direction.

"The last thing we're going to talk about is politics," Lyttle said. "We'd talk about a myriad of other things instead of politics."

Dean's skein would likely have more in common with the talkshow Bill Clinton (news - web sites) had been considering a few years back.

"He'd look at things like, What happens if you lose a sibling? What about when you're victimized by not having health care?" Lyttle said, arguing that Dean has the perfect persona for the small screen.

"He's a little bit of Howard Beale, a little Dr. Phil and a little Donahue all rolled into one," he said. "What was so appealing to me is the fact that he's not afraid to express an opinion."

This could be a VERY interesting format.

1. I wish he'd accept Veep.
I think it would send a charge of excitement for J. Kerry...I would love to see Dean on the ticket.

3. They would NEVER ask him. Too angry.
This would never be permitted by the party. He is not in line enough.

11. you mean he's not DLC
Who do you think supplied that cherry picked video the mass media played to death? The DLC was terrified of Dean.

4. That would rock!
His personality is way better than Kerry's. And Kerry has the experience and level-head. They'd make a good team.

2. But I think we need his voice in politics too - I wonder how he plans to
balance this with Democracy for America?

5. I think it can be done.
He is promising to campaign with candidates. The topics he chooses may not be called political, but he can sure make big points with them.

9. I like the idea because no one every shows the impact of policies
on real people. Everything is just about the horse race and poll numbers and if you "like" the candidate or would "want to go have a beer with them". Voting based on that crap is so short sighted it drives me crazy.

The "I vote on the person" not their policies when their policies is what will effect the country and world for decades or centuries.

7. Damn--why didn't he take the cable job and start getting left wing
messages out there?? Somehow when it comes down to it, all our Dems run in the other direction when the opportunity is given to them. I can't believe this is happening. We just had a chance (and hopefully before the election) go right up in smoke. Who gives a rats ass about another useless Dr. Phil!!!!??

8. He detests Dr. Phil, has made fun of him.
Let it sink in, it could be good. Getting people to care about issues is vital. He could do this.

He could not have a political show until after the election anyway....they would blame him if he were not politically correct.

10. a good thought
John Kerry, Howard Dean. I don't think we've had a doctor in the whitehouse before, the ways and mannerism of a doctor may just be what we need to get back into the world community.
