Freepers cheer SBG's censorship of Iraqi deaths
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1126685/posts

Tomorrow's Nightline will "air the names and photos of soldiers who have been killed in combat in Iraq". The Sinclair Broadcast Group has said it will not broadcast Nightline because "we find it to be contrary to the public interest". Huh? Then all the Freepers cheer this. When did the fact that American soldiers dying in Iraq become a big, dirty secret that "patriots" refuse to talk about? Snapshots of people from when they were alive, flag-draped coffins, all seems very respectful to me. Didn't Life magazine run an issue of the week's dead in Life back in the 1960's? I guess out of sight, out of mind.

Aside from public access, PBS, which practically has commercials nowadays, and C-SPAN, which exists on the whim of the cable owners, television is completely controlled by corporations. Radio at least is not at that level although it's mostly corporate controlled. City newspapers are similar. The corporate mass media already is a massive reality distortion field, and has been for decades, now they become upset when reality intrudes once in a while. I'm truly surprised that Freepers are offended to see flag-draped coffins and memorial photos. I guess they're more cynical than I realized.

1. reading all those names may hurt the GOP
freepers put the interests of their party above the interests of their country - it's that simple and that pathetic.

2. How friggin' stupid are these people?
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 11:24 AM by lovedems
Cencorship IS NOT freedom!

They wrap themselves in the flag and applaud everytime this administration or one their corporate friends hacks away at the constitution and our rights.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

These are the same people who probably think that White Supremists have the right to hand out books on how to make bombs and how to fight the power of the government. But God forbid we list the soldiers who died for their sorry asses. I guess it just depends on what the message is...If they like it, it is our first amendment right. If they don't like it cencorship is fine and dandy.

Being a southern guy myself, I keep seeing the divide between the liberal north and the conservative south growing wider and wider. Succession time again?

6. Oh for crying out loud, can't freepers SPELL?
It's SECESSION not SUCCESSION, two different meanings in that, in fact I remember a funny HBO movie about the governor of Ohio, or Iowa making a misstatement that lead to the U.S. declaring war on the state.

11. They're proudly asserting the negative "Southern dimwit" stereotype
again.

"Duh, I'll take a glass of that eliminate!"

7. Honor the fallen

Why would anyone begrudge the fallen soldiers this honor?

It's not much, just the mention of their names on television.
It's not as much as they deserve.

I hate war. I was against the war in Iraq since before it
started. But, still, those are our boys and girls and they
died fighting a war we sent them to fight.

I don't understand how the freepers can put politics above
the sacrifice our young people have made. I really don't.

9. WTF????
To: Always Right
If the purpose was to honour the soldiers it might be a great thing.

I told my wife last night if Fox News were doing this, I'd have zero problem with it. I just don't trust the motives of ABC.

It's amazing how the big media is loathed.

12. Republican Hypocrisy (TM) at its very finest!
"If WE do it, then it's fine and the motives are good, if THEY do it, it's a dirty political stunt, morally equivalent to kicking small dogs!"

My reply to this knucklehead would be:

It's amazing how stupid freepers are. Just when I thought they couldn't get any more stupid, along comes bigeasy_70118 to prove me wrong!

13. Sinclair can get bent
Sinclair is the Clearchannel of TV companies. They ruined my local news, they don't pay their reporters anything, they don't buy decent equipment, and they don't try to put out a decent product.

Dishonoring our murdered soldiers is one more reason I heartily say: Fuck Sinclair!
