(CBS) A few weeks ago, the U.S. Army announced that 17 soldiers in Iraq had been removed from duty, and six of them were facing court martial for mistreating Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib, the infamous prison where Saddam Hussein and his henchmen tortured and executed Iraqis for decades.

60 Minutes II has obtained photographs of what was happening in Abu Ghraib. The photos show American soldiers mistreating Iraqi prisoners.

that was the reservist Fitzgerald's excuse to beat, humiliate, rape, kill and torture prisoners? He has to read that in a manual to know it's wrong? Doesn't say much for the prison system that a career prison guard didn't know torture was wrong until he read the Geneva Convention.

And his lawyer gave the "elixir of power" bit like it was some kind of excuse, rather than being the goddamn problem.

Part of the Army's own investigation is a statement from an Iraqi detainee who charges a translator - hired to work at the prison - with raping a male juvenile prisoner: "They covered all the doors with sheets. I heard the screaming. ...and the female soldier was taking pictures."
