Check out 60 Minutes II tonight: US troops abuse of Iraqi prisoners probed
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/04/27/60II/main614063.shtml

(CBS) A few weeks ago, the U.S. Army announced that 17 soldiers in Iraq had been removed from duty, and six of them were facing court martial for mistreating Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib, the infamous prison where Saddam Hussein and his henchmen tortured and executed Iraqis for decades.

60 Minutes II has obtained photographs of what was happening in Abu Ghraib. The photos show American soldiers mistreating Iraqi prisoners.

1. Showing photos
of naked Iraqi prisoners forced to pose in humiliating positions. This is shameful.

4. Want to know what's really sick?
There's going to be a lot of people attacking CBS for showing the photos, instead of attacking what is occurring in the photos.

11. What do you think the US Army School of the Americas taught?
down at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Torture was part of SOP in the secret war in Central America during the 1980's.

I don't beleive it's an "isolated incident." I beleive the US is engaged in evil in Iraq.

13. "I never read the Geneva Conventions"??
that was the reservist Fitzgerald's excuse to beat, humiliate, rape, kill and torture prisoners? He has to read that in a manual to know it's wrong? Then his lawyer says: "Oh it was the elixir of power. A small town boy is suddenly in control and it was an elixir of power over another human being"???? WTF??? I think death row is full of sadists who liked that "elixir of power" a bit too much. Wasn't that Saddams thing too? Jeeeeez.

14. That pathetic excuse
Doesn't say much for the prison system that a career prison guard didn't know torture was wrong until he read the Geneva Convention.

And his lawyer gave the "elixir of power" bit like it was some kind of excuse, rather than being the goddamn problem.

I'm just quaking with fury right now.

18. SUPPORT THE TROOPS
Part of the Army's own investigation is a statement from an Iraqi detainee who charges a translator - hired to work at the prison - with raping a male juvenile prisoner: "They covered all the doors with sheets. I heard the screaming. ...and the female soldier was taking pictures."
