SNIP..."According to the Ocala StarBanner, the problem arose at West Port High School's senior prom when the disc jockey -- on orders from the school administration -confined the music to "basic dance music, like old time rock 'n' roll," but, he said, "the kids had other things in mind."

SNIP...""We just asked the DJs to not play any music that would encourage our students to dance in inappropriate ways," said Assistant Principal Kathy Quelland. "We did not want them to model what they see on MTV. We were trying to make our prom a little more classy type of thing."

The students didn't see it that way. "This is not the 19th Century," said one male prom-goer. "They have to give some kind of leeway."

1. Paging John Stevens! Paging John Stevens!
If your gig on "American Idol" doesn't work out, maybe you can do live performances in Ocala.

2. Footloose or "Screwloose"??
When will the adminstration figure out that they cannot keep kids 10 yrs old forever.. As much as we might fear it, kids will grow up, and do things that the adults positively HATE.. Ruining their prom will not change anything.. :(

6. LOL and he was not allowed to swivel his hips when he appeared locally.
I went, was on the front row, nearly got squashed getting in. The local folks made sure he only did a little wiggling on stage.

7. Ha Ha Love those fancy pants!
This kind of thing is going on in our school district here in other ways. Subtle ways, such as speakers at graduation, classroom speakers, etc. All pushing various morality issues. It started a long time ago and seems to get worse.

I saw it when I was still teaching.

8. My parents sent me to a Catholic High School.
Regardless of what anyone may say, Catholics, in general, are not "stick-up their asses", Konservative Khristian Koalition types.
Compared to some in-laws of mine who are "born again" types, Catholics are a happy go lucky party crowd.
All of this is based only on MY experience. I grew up in Chicago, where even conservatives are a little "left-of-BushCorp,".
