DRUDGE quoting NY Times: New movie irks Bush administration
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 11:08 AM by wyldwolf
Fed agencies employees not to comment publicly on FOX's new summer fuss-film THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, a $125 million disaster movie on "global warming."

The flick, which depicts how accumulating smokestack and tailpipe gases sets off an instant ice age, is set to open on May 28.

Few climate experts think such a prospect is likely, the NEW YORK TIMES is planning to report on Sunday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT, but the prospect that moviegoers will be alarmed enough to blame the Bush administration for inattention to climate change has stirred alarm at the space agency.

"No one from NASA is to do interviews or otherwise comment on anything having to do with" the film, said an April 1 message to employees.

Answer before someone asks: Because the Drudge story is timely and relevant.

1. In my entire life ive never seen such a thin skinned admin
Geeze what DOSENT make the Bush Admin mad? I'm sure Rove is making calls to Murdoch as we speak for cuts or a more of a Republican viewpoint to the movie. For a bunch of supposed tough guys the Bush Admin acts like a bunch of sensitive crybabies.

21. Being crybabies is how they got to be where they are
Rush Limbaugh is the biggest crybaby I've ever heard but he attracts listeners with his bitching. Squeeky wheel gets the grease. All they ever do is complain, bitch and moan. It has gotten them undo attention and they have the majority in Congress because of all their bitching.

22. That's only because they have too much already to be guilty about,
not saying they 'feel' guilty, but they sure as hell don't want any of us asking anymore questions they have to lie about. They're busy enough at it as is.

2. Gee
I'd have thought Fox would get ideological clearence before spending the $125 mil.

Maybe they'll add a new ending that blames Clinton.

5. I saw the trailer last night. Devastating to the Bushco polluters.
If nothing else, this will bring the ultimate perils of global warming mainstream.

6. "It's just a movie"
It wasn't made by Mel Gibson, so it can't influence society.

Besides, you know that Hollywood is full of democrat-commie-pinko-liberals don't you?

This is just their propoganda during an election year. LOL! :)

24. Anybody catch this in that trailer?
The lead movie character calls out to a white haired, suited man in the halls of probably the White House and pleads: "Mr. Vice-President, if we don't act now, it may be too late!"

Mr. Vice-President? Not, Mr. President, as in most disaster flicks, but pleading to Mr. Vice-President!

rofl - I got a chuckle out of that one.

14. maybe the publicity would do some good
even if the movie sucks. If it led to global warming getting as much attention as Jesus got from the Jesus movie, that would be a good thing.

26. Don't our taxes pay for NASA?
How is it that shrub* can order a national agency not to answer questions about the premise of a movie? (It's a rhetorical question)

One of the links above has the NASA position on global warming already. Important stuff for real scientists, policy makers, even, gasp! corporations. Are they going to pull the big blue curtain over any parts of the body politic that seem offensive to themselves and their dastardly plans for world dominance/destruction?

We need to be screaming to high heaven about this, even if the movie is schlock. At the very least, it will bring the ridiculous secrecy of this criminal administration to light.

27. Pentagon Prepares for Global War Caused by Ice Age
This is courtesy of Fortune magazine of all publications.

http://www.fortune.com/fortune/technology/articles/0,15114,582584,00.html
<snip>
Global warming may be bad news for future generations, but let's face it, most of us spend as little time worrying about it as we did about al Qaeda before 9/11. Like the terrorists, though, the seemingly remote climate risk may hit home sooner and harder than we ever imagined. In fact, the prospect has become so real that the Pentagon's strategic planners are grappling with it.

The threat that has riveted their attention is this: Global warming, rather than causing gradual, centuries-spanning change, may be pushing the climate to a tipping point. Growing evidence suggests the ocean-atmosphere system that controls the world's climate can lurch from one state to another in less than a decade—like a canoe that's gradually tilted until suddenly it flips over. Scientists don't know how close the system is to a critical threshold. But abrupt climate change may well occur in the not-too-distant future. If it does, the need to rapidly adapt may overwhelm many societies—thereby upsetting the geopolitical balance of power.

have to worry about movies - I know bush is lazy and unproductive, but maybe this is what he does - previews movies and tries to shut them down
