2. Keeping under wraps....
we can't know the "real" numbers. The sheeple can't handle the truth.
They have to be happy to spend, spend, spend. Everything is OK.
Move along now...

4. Soldiers who die from causes other than combat don't count
Soldiers who die within minutes of leaving the scene of combat don't count.

So you will hear of many deaths, but the count will not change because the death does not meet the military definition.

Being blown up by roadside bombs is just a honorary mention.

6. I remeber seeing TWO articles about soldier's dying "from injuries....
received in combat". Just two.....riiiiiiight.

you are correct in that their definition is concrete and necessarily understates the actual count. They are and have been trying everything possible to keep the number low

"Deaths in Iraq"
"COMBAT deaths in Iraq" (with their definition)
"Since major combat operations were declared over"
"COMBAT deaths Since major combat operations were declared over"
"Since the beginning of this year...."

and so on.

7. Does anyone know...
How many non-American, non-Iraqi deaths there were, meaning, the troops from other nations?

9. The sad thing is
Americans only care about americans.
So touting the deaths of nonamericans has even less effect
I wouldnt be suprised if we lost over 1 thousand us soldiers allready in iraq alone.
but we as americans wont know for years
oh welcome to DU

8. I doubt the rumor about deaths not being counted
It came up in some wacko article from some guy in Australia, he claimed that soldiers who are not immediatly pronounced dead at the scene, but do die from their wounds are not counted as combat deaths.

I doubt this because several times I would read about soldiers wounded from roadside bombs, knowing that there would have to be some fatalities. And sure enough several days later their deaths would be reported. Just today is a report of a Marine who died from wounds suffered on 4/16.

That doesn't mean that they don't play with the numbers, for instance if a vehicle flips over because it tried to avoid enemy fire, I've heard that any resulting fatalities are not considered to be combat related.
