"How fortunate for leaders that men do not think."
The latest Harris poll (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040421/nyw132_1.html ) should remind us all of a time when the world experienced similar type of leadership and media control:

"How fortunate for leaders that men do not think."
Adolf Hitler

"The broad masses of a population are more amenable to the appeal of rhetoric than to any other force."
Adolf Hitler

"The great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one."
Adolf Hitler

"What good fortune for governments that the people do not think."
Adolf Hitler

"What luck for rulers, that men do not think."
Adolf Hitler

"The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category."
Adolf Hitler

"The victor will never be asked if he told the truth."
Adolf Hitler

"It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion."
Joseph Goebbels

"We have made the Reich by propaganda."
Joseph Goebbels

"The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over."
Joseph Goebbels

"Intellectual activity is a danger to the building of character."
Joseph Goebbels

"Who says I am not under the special protection of God? "
Adolf Hitler

"Words build bridges into unexplored regions."
Adolf Hitler

"Strength lies not in defense but in attack."
Adolf Hitler

"Success is the sole earthly judge of right and wrong. "
Adolf Hitler

"Universal education is the most corroding and disintegrating poison that liberalism has ever invented for its own destruction."
Adolf Hitler

3. I don't like that last one
Universal education would be great if it were teaching something OTHER than how to become a cog in the wheel of capitalism.

7. Most people's energies are consumed in the daily tasks
necessary to earn a living, take care of the children and attend to the needs of any sick or elederly parents and other relatives. This makes it absolutely essential that they have some stability in their lives. What looks like apathy is essentially a yearning for stability
and this is what a cunning leader like Hitler or Cheney/Bush/Rove
exploits.By demonizing Jews, Arabs/Muslims or any other group as a threat to the daily stability of lives, these so called leaders
exploit the decent ordinary people for their own nefarious ends.

If we had a vigilant and skeptical Press and Media that constantly questions the pronouncements of "leaders" and raises doubts about their motivations, decent people will have a protection against the propaganda.Otherwise, we will have hatred, wars, killings, lies and all the rest.I do not think this is likely in our system where money
by way of corporate control plays such a big role in media. Most journalists are status seekers just like the rest of us and so the prospect of having a free press is dim.

9. If our schools taught even a modicum of critical thinking
the whore press would be known for what it is. Which is why they mostly don't teach that.
